Post subject:  Fuel Heater Resistance

Hello all,

My first real post; been lurking for weeks. Replaced the badly leaking gen 1 fuel head tonight with a second generation unit. The resistance of the heater in the new head is less than 1 ohm; the old one is approximately 150 ohm. I wouldn't have expected the wattage of the new one to be quite that high; but I wouldn't have expected the old to be that low. I am assuming the new to be correct and the old to be sick.

Does anyone know the resistance of the new heaters?

Just checked both of mine are 1 ohm.

I think the resistance is temperature sensitive i.e. that's why it heats.

if it's cold - high resistance - generates heat from the current

as it warms - resistance drops.

although 150 still sounds high

Follow up - the resistance is about 0.7 - 0.8 ohm. I checked the fuse size later and found it was 20A, which is appropriate. Thanks for the replies.
