Post subject:  Leak from two small lines on bottom of T-Stat housing

can anyone shed some insight here, im loosing coolant slowly, no pressure under the cap after cooling off, and top rad hose is soft when cold, nothing pushed into the overflow so im thinking im good on a HG, but im seeing a drop about every two weeks requiring an additon or i get a low cool warning. The tstat was replaced by previous owner, it looks like it might be weeping right there at the housing or back of pump, but i also have coolant dripping off the two lines that go into the bottom of the t-stat housing, question is what are these lines? and where do i get replacements.

A picture would help if you have one. Also, what's the mileage on the rig and has the water pump been replaced? Most replace the water pump at the timing belt interval (100k mi). I had a small amount of loss from the WP seals before mine was done a few months ago and it's much better now. Obviously the lines on the tstat are one issue. Do they still have the spring clamps in place? It's not that common for them to weep unless they're really high mileage, took some abuse, or were just not installed properly.

In the long run you may have to add some coolant UV dye, rinse the engine, drive for a week or 2, and look for the leak with a UV light but before that here are some thoughts:
1. the tstat is held in place to the block by 2 rear and 1 front bolt (IIRC all same size head but maybe some different lengths) not counting the top bracket one. Back lower bolt is hard to get to and hence easy to strip in which case tstat to head gasket will leak; best get in there with an appropriate size 1/4" socket, a 6"+ 1/4" drive wobble extension, and a 1/4" drive socket wrench and just barely twick that bolt enough to make sure it's not stripped.
2. right angle port goes to overflow tank, horizontal black plastic port goes to viscous heater and then heater core, and horizontal aluminum port goes to the radiator bypass. OEM spring loaded clamps are tension rated and can easily fail to seal if a) tensions get mixed up, b) they are only good for 1 use after original install at best, and c) if they, like any clamp, get seated on instead of behind the bulge in the fitting.
3. might also leak at the tstat temp probe on the back side if threads not sealed.
4. if the replacement tstat was a Crown brand they are known for lacking sealant on both of the plastic ports and will leak there.

i was told that the waterpump was done at 101k with the timing belt by the PO. everything else he has told mee seems to be honest so no reason to doubt it. Also the jeep appears someone did most of the fixes known on the boards so id figure they would have done the pump as well. I think my t-stat says VM on it and i know its been replaced as well. i did notice the line on the bottom of the recovery tank seems to have some weeping around where it joins the tank makes me wander if its just running down it an dripping off at the housing. Im only getting a low cool warning maybe once every two weeks at most probably more like 3 to 4.
