Is the CARTER P76148M a centrifugal pump? The Kennedy pump is a centrifugal. If the Kennedy pump fails the CP3 will still pull through it. Does the same apply to the CARTER P76148M?

That is my understanding. An in-tank pump failure will still allow the CP3 to suck the fuel through the pump provided you have no air leaks in the system outside the tank....

Does so with the CP3 on the big RAM, from whence it came - no reason it wouldn't do so with the CP3 on the KJ, once installed, eh ...................

I have found that air slowly accumulates in the filter. I replaced the fuel filter head at 49k miles with the new style. At 66k miles it had accumulated enough air to affect the operation of the engine. I was planning to change the fuel filter every 3rd oil change, but didn't quite make it to 67k miles. I guess I could pump the air out every oil change and keep air from accumulating in the filter. Instead, I ordered a Carter P76148M from Amazon for $119.

Is it possible to purchase a complete new plug with wires for the fuel pump? While I have spent many hours in salvage yards sourcing parts like this, I do not and will have time in 2015.......too many obligations. Thanks.

If you don't have the time to do the junk yard donor and/or do not want to add the two wires and terminals to your existing harness, you can simple order a new harness from Chrysler, part no. 56050485AC for an 05 cost a little over $55 + S&H.
http://www.factorychryslerparts.com/products/WIRING-Fuel-Tank/4589545/56050485AC.html

56050284AB is no longer available!
OEM Number: 56050485AC for the '05 gas wiring harness $55
OEM Number: 56047847AC or 56047848AC for the 06 gas wiring harness (06 lists two different part no.s, not sure what the differences are other than price)

Thanks for the part numbers. Unfortunately, I have no idea which I need for our 2006. 56047848AC is significantly more expensive than 56047847AC. Anyone know the difference between the two? Does it relate to build date?

56047848AA/56047848AB/56047848AC is the correct number for the 2006 3.7L gasoline Liberty fuel tank wiring harness. The best price I could find is $89 shipped on eBay. $89 seems like a lot of $$, but I no longer have the time to hunt for parts in salvage yards.

I do not know. Will 56050485AC work? It is available for less than $30.

That shows the internal body connector and wiring thru the big body grommet under the rear seat, thence to the fuel tank and what appears to be the wiring and connector for the charcoal filter and roll-over valve switch - cruise on over to your local DCJ dealer for some show'n'tell

Seems to me to be much easier to hit the local boneyards for some Saturday R&R&R (recon\recreation\recovery) - just pop the big grommet out (seats are usually long-gone) but don't double wrap the harness around your hand and yank hard unless the fuel tank is already gone - any reputable yard in compliance with local, state, and FED regulations is required to remove, drain, and store the fuel tanks in an approved area

56041393AA has been discontinued. The only place that still has them is vintage parts, they have 6 left and are $22 a piece. Ill have mine sometime Wednesday. If nothing else it will give me the pins i need to make the merge. best case its a little short and I extend the 4 wires to the tank and have a brand new harness for the rear ABS sensor. Sound like a win to me. Fuel pump is on order from Amazon. I'm hoping to tear into it friday. Tempted to order a new rear ABS sensor and O ring while I'm there.

It appears that this part number is not the one we are looking for. This appears to be the stock harness for the liberty CRD and is missing the power wires for the fuel pump. So now i need to figure out the best course of action for getting power to the pump on this new harness.

If you have the harness, just pop the wires\connectors out and follow the instructions in my article - or, any of thousands of other imitators on board, here

2005 KJ CRD has RWABS, with one single sensor mounted in top-center of differential, one sensor on each front wheel
- '06-'07 KJ CRD has 4WABS, with individual sensors on each rear wheel and each front wheel
- '05 sensor and '06-'07 sensors are not similar
- some (mystical) info suggests that some, a few, '05's were shipped with 4WABS on special order
- you no gottee if one wire from sensor on differential, eh..............

Pump is in, and everything is buttoned up. Took about 4 hours by myself to get the seat out, drop the tank, etc. I made the harness the other night in anticipation. All in all everything looks good. Purged the air out of the fuel system, and pump is rock hard. Jeep starts up good. Tomorrow will be the real test. Next up, front wheel bearings...

Where are the "instructions in my article" you reference above. I have been searching to no avail. Looking for Carter in-tank installation experiences/instructions.

When using a in-tank lift pump the OEM fittings and hoses will work just fine as long as you do not damage them when disconnecting them to drop the fuel tank. They are designed for positive pressure sealing and do a good job when under pressure but suck at sealing suction when under negative pressure as with a pump located anywhere else other than inside the tank! :P

If you are installing a lift pump outside the fuel tank, I would certainly discard the OEM hoses and fittings and install some marine grade fuel hose and install some band type clamps.

As to the wiring, view these two links below and they should answer any questions concerning installing an in-tank lift pump and wiring it up properly.

Note: I built my own wiring harness using good quality automotive copper wire and the correct APEX 2.8 terminal wire ends. (available on line)

Do you have a link to those ends?
