Post subject:  Installed Lift Pump, then Limp Mode and Check Engine Codes

I installed a lift pump on my jeep last weekend. It was running really good until the end of this week.
On Friday coming up to a stop light and sputtered and died.
Driving down the interstate on Sunday and it threw me into limp mode and the check engine light came on again. I pulled the negative cable for 5 min and all was good.

Codes:
P0190-FUEL PRESS SENSOR SIGNAL VOLTAGE TOO HIGH
P0190-FUEL PRESS SENSOR SIGNAL VOLTAGE TOO LOW.
P0191-FUEL PRESS SENSOR AFTERRUN NEGATIVE PLAUSIBILITY.
P0191-FUEL PRESS SENSOR AFTERRUN POSITIVE PLAUSIBILITY.
P1202 - FUEL SYSTEM OVER-PRESSURE - Stuck Regulator (Diesel)

Pump Installed:
Airtex E7181M Fuel Pump Strainer

I plan on changing the fuel filter really soon, and I hope that will clear it all up?
Or is my lift pump putting out too much pressure?

I changed the fuel filter last night and hopefully will install a gauge for fuel pressure tonight. It runs and drives great though. No issues since Sunday.

Your pump could have sucked up some CRuD in the tank and lodged it in the filter. Changing that is what I would have done, too. Unless you have a SERIOUS amount of overpressure, the high-pressure bypass mechanism (i.e. fuel return line) should take care of that.

Keep us posted.

I installed a gauge on the fuel inlet to the filter, by drilling and tapping a banjo bolt (M14) and adding a gauge.

When the Jeep is on and idling, the gauge is at 14.5 PSI.

This leaves me with a few questions.

Is this too much pressure? Will my CP3 pump eat its seals at this pressure?
Who else has this lift pump installed with no long term issues?
Does anyone else have a gauge on their fuel system?
How much pressure is lost across the filter?

Mine puts out about 10psi on the output side of a Racor - no problems for ~ 80K miles

While doing a lot of searching about how much pressure is too much, I found that there are several users using this lift pump and none have had issues with it.

However, I could not find any difinitive info on what the max pressure should be. Between searching on here and on some Dodge Trucks forums I am guessing you dont want your lift pump to be over 18-20 PSI.

I have the in-tank pump running the same pressure. Its been in since 2006, no problems. If you add another gauge to the clean side its a great way to tell when the filter is getting restricted by the pressure differential.

I got code P0190 again tonight, I may change out the pressure sensor, but first I will check my wiring harness between the sensor and the ECU and see if that fixes it.
