hey guys just an update, my junk yard engine is apart and I only had two broken rockers. I pulled the head and had no bent valves, nor could I even find a mark on the piston where the valves hit. you would think if the valves hit the piston hard enough to break a rocker it would bend a valve and leave some sort of mark on top of the piston. when the libby was in the wreck it was hit so hard it busted the timing cover and gear off the exhaust cam. but after I got it completely disassembled one rocker broken completely apart and the other on same cylinder split but still together was the only damage. I feel pretty good at this point because I bought the engine as is at core price because the salvage yard didn't know anything about these engines and they didn't want to so I signed a waiver. so now I have two good engines.

That's fantastic. Is this a spare engine or do you have plans for it?

That is fantastic news! I would go out and buy a whole bucket of lottery tickets because you just hit a jackpot, maybe you'll get lucky and get another one.

dieselguy,

Look closely at the Rocker rollers. If they have even the least amount of movement, don't reuse them.

Nice find!!

Good luck,
KJJET

   hey guys,,got tired of seeing my jeep setting in my shop. I got on it Monday and Wednesday I cranked it. its been setting in my shop since 8-19-2013. I bought it off a guy and he had disassembled it and the entire top end and front end of jeep was in boxes inside jeep. my family has nick named it the jeep in a box. well believe it or not every single piece was there. the previous owner knew nothing about these and had not touched it since new, it had almost exactly 200,000 on it and was all stock, yes even timing belt. The intake ports were so clogged you couldn't even get a pencil in them. the valves had so much tar gunk on them u could push the valves open and they stayed open. through the winter I would pour kerosene on the valve stems and work them for a few minutes, did that 2-3 times a week. the low mileage junkyard engine was a donor for rockers, seeing all mine were destroyed. it runs like new now. im gonna run it this summer and do a tear down to install water pump, tensioner and idlers along with a good replaceable thermostat housing. I only put a new timing belt on because I had no idea if it would even run. factory water pump was tight, idlers and tensioner was tight with no grease leak and it has 200,863 miles on it. I figured if it ran and had no other issues I would take it back apart after summer and give it a long overdue upgrade. BTW this is my first CRD, I read and studied and watched many videos and now know this thing like the back of my hand. I love it,, got room for the kids, cargo area for my tool bag and parts, im an appliance repairman and now run service out of it. I also own a farm and can load fertilize in it and haul across the creek into the fields, and when im ready to relax hook the boat up and head to the river.
