I was under the impression that after doing the EHM and getting the GDE eco tune done that there wouldn't be any more sooty, recycled air in the intake. I just took my MAF out the thing was caked solid again.

When I cleaned up the MAF last time (one year ago) I replaced the turbo hoses with Samco's, did the GDE eco tune and cleaned out that intake elbow and have driven now for about 1 year.

I was shocked to see how much soot was plugging the MAF again. Totally blocked. It wasn't oily soot like it was prior to the GDE and EHM, this time it was dry soot.

I was under the impression that the MAF wouldn't get all sooted up again after those mods, but maybe I'm wrong. Could that just be a bunch of residue soot from further in the intake that is being pushed through the system?

Just curious as to what I should expect and maybe I should be cleaning the MAF every 4 months or so.

Cheers,

I assume you mean the MAP sensor, not the MAF sensor? (Check Sam's guide to be sure.) I clean ours about every 10K miles and it typically has little on it. We have about 75K miles on various GDE tunes and EHM. Not sure what is going on with yours, but I would clean and check every 2K miles for a while to see how quickly it gets caked up. Past a certain point, you go to a default setting on fuel delivery so it will have a bit too much fuel much of the time.

Thanks @doc4444

MAP...not MAF. My Bad...

I'll take your advice and check it periodically, maybe every oil change (5000km)...I had probably put 15000km (not sure miles) on it since the EHM and GDE tune...and I know there would have been a ton of soot stuck up further past where the elbow mounts, so maybe I'm just moving that old soot through.

Thanks for the feedback Doc!

It may be old soot in the system.

My old MAP sensor failed and I replaced it when I installed the GDE tune. I had previously been running a provent for awhile. Pulled the MAP out recently and it looked like it just came out of the box it was that clean.

@WolverineFW - That's what I'm hoping.

Cheers!
