Yesterday my alternator crapped out on the way to work with no warning (at least that's what I figure, will know for sure when I get a new alternator in), leaving me stranded for the first time in my beloved CRD. I'm approaching 100k miles and am wondering what else I should expect to die on me. I still like to road trip with this rig and plan to keep it for a long time so I would like to be preventative...any thoughts on other normal wear and tear items to expect would be much appreciated! And of course I am well aware of the timing belt/water pump issue, parts are on the way for a fun weekend of tinkering...

Intercooler hoses are best replaced with Samcos, airbox to turbo hose is prone to cracking on bottom just in front of turbo (check replace when needed), good idea to carry a spare fuel filter in case of a fillup with bad fuel. Other than that and the TB job nothing comes to mind other than the usual car/truck stuff like battery, belts, tires, brakes, and such.

I've seen others suggest the lower radiator hose while your doing the tb/wp job. I agree it would be a good idea since its a pain to get to and your right there at it, however I haven't seen anyone have one of these fail either.

Motor mounts. I noticed a big difference when shutting down when I replaced my motor mounts. Shuts down a lot smoother now.

Thanks guys, Samcos are done, motor mounts done, always carry a spare fuel filter, especially since I'm brewing biodiesel. Will definitely check that airbox to turbo hose since there was just another thread about it. Have a good Memorial Day!

Are you sure the alternator died, or was it just the pulley? The pulley has a clutch in it that seems to last about 100,000 miles.

Don't forget to carry along a spare torque converter and new front pump since the TC seems to fail before 110 miles or did on mine. 136k original miles on alternator but did replace pulley before 100k.

261,000 on my stock convertor, but since I'm rebuilding the engine, a Suncoast will be replacing it.
