Do I have to take off the power steering pump pulley to get the belt tensioner off? Why can I not get the belt back on? I took the pulley off and the bearing did not have any play but then I took the bolt out of the tensioner and could not get if off without removing the powersteering pulley and I could not get that off with the belt off.

Correction: Yes ps pulley must be removed. Not sure if it was because when my dads CRD's tensioner went, it went far south from where it belonged. When replacing (with a new tensioner) remember to leave the locking pin in place until the tensioner and belt are replaced, only then you remove the locking pin holding the tension. Hope this helps. One of the issue I had I was trying to slip the belt over the tension as the last step, this simply will not work. I ended up slipping it over one of the pulleys on the right hand side, the idler IIRC.

Yes, the power steering pulley must be removed to replace the tensioner. For ease in replacing the belt, don't try to slide it over any pulley with raised "shoulder guards" as the last pulley. It won't fit. Use either of the idlers, I generally use the center idler just below the engine hanger.

Over 225 CRDs currently driving with my valves, timing belt, rockers, or ARP Studs.
Bad noises = REALLY bad things.

I put a socket in the PS pulley hole to remove it. Then I could get a 10 mm socket on the bolts. After I got if off the engine I realized why it would not go back on. The pins have to be aligned with the mount on the engine or the angle is off and the belt will not go on. I cleaned it off tighten everything back up and it seemed to work fine.
