Hello all, looking for some input! I have an '05 CRD with 98,000. Lately while shifting into reverse or drive it takes several seconds to engage. Sometimes it won't engage drive, so I shift back to neutral, and then back to drive. It's also struggling to shift at times in higher gears. I was driving up a hill today that I normally go 55 on, but it locked in around 35 mph and a little over 3500 rpms. I had the pedal all the way down, but it wouldn't shift. I researched a bit and it sounds like it could be the solenoid? The check engine lights on again too. It was on a week ago and the dealer turned it off. They told me it was an air flow fault and to disregard it. I'm not much of a mechanic and picked this jeep up off my parents who purchased it new in 2005. As fun as it is to drive, it has been a headache lately. I just had the turbo, and several other parts replaced roughly a year ago. Will likely be putting it up on the market once it's running well. Thanks! |

First, check the transmission fluid level. If its low, add some ATF+4 till the full mark, then add about another half quart. Second, when was the last time the transmission fluid and filters were changed? It might be time for a service. Third, if all the above is good to go, delayed transmission engagement when cold seems to be a common problem with this transmission and no reasonable solution has been found. |
