When I went to remove my passenger side cv axle the inner shaft came with it.

Is there a special trick to get the inner shaft off or can I just use the gentle touch of a hammer. Sorry if this has been discussed, my search is not working on my phone

Do you have a trailer with a Pintle hitch style trailer sitting around. Use it I jacked mine up to the top of its height and slammed the bearing sleeve through it as hard as I could using the intermedate shaft as a handle. It worked out better then the whole hammer approach for me.

If you have a very rigid "donut" or V shape to catch the CV shaft, just grab the innershaft and pull.

Thank you. Should I go ahead and order a new inner shaft? The splines that go into the differential look good.

I had to soak mine in PBBlaster for a couple of days before it would come off and even then I had to mount the intermediate shaft in a vice (using rubber shaft holder) and beat on the CV housing (sledge hammer on a 3 foot 2x4, not actually hitting the housing) to get it to come loose.

Unless its rusted on, its only held in by a snap ring, but darn if that snap ring isn't just the right size and strength to keep the two pieces together.

If the splines look good on both ends, you probably don't need to replace it.

Yep, I got my 2 seperated today. All I did was hold the inner shaft and gave a light tap on the cv axle and it popped right off. Splines look good and I'll re use it
