Wife calls the other day with a CEL. Truck running find. We met in town and I pulled codes. Got P1263, P0836, P0672, & B2TAE. I'm not sure about that body code but the others seem to point to glow plug #2 (It would have to be 2, not 1 or 4, but 2). I replaced the stockers this past winter with a set of steel ones from IDparts. Before I order a new one and start to investigate warrenty with IDparts I wanted to see if anyone has any experience or issues with the steel glow plugs. BTW, I cleared codes and a cel popped up again this am. It's 70 degrees in the morning here so I doubt they are actually coming on but probably just a current passed to them for start up procedure. Truck starts fine. |

I'm assuming you got the Etecno 7v steel plugs? If so, then yes, this has been a common issue. There's a thread here: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=77911 My CEL came on this winter when I had the Jeep in Chicago and it was below 0 the entire time i was there. First, it was my #4 plug, then #2 a week later. The Etecno's I bought from IDparts were less than 5 months old. I just replaced all 4 plugs and installed the intake elbow kit for easier replacement should they fail again. I'll be dropping off all 4 old plugs for warranty testing at IDparts and keeping whichever ones check out OK as spares. |

Yes, 7v Etecno I saw that thread. Not reassuring. I find it odd, and disturbing, that it failed during the summer when they are not really being used. I'll email IDparts and see what they say. |

Yep plenty of us are having steel 7v failures. I have yet to contact ID parts but mine failed after about 4 months |

I believe that the glow plugs are run in warm weather to help with emissions during start up. Here is a small chart to show the duration when they are on. (Copied from another thread) Engine Coolant Temperature, Key-ON-Wait-To Start Lamp-(Seconds), Pre-Heat-Cycle-(Glow Plugs On Seconds), Post-Heat Cycle(Seconds) -30C 10 SEC. 35 SEC. 200 SEC. -10C 10 SEC. 23 SEC. 180 SEC. +10C 1 SEC. 21 SEC. 160 SEC. +30C 1 SEC. 20 SEC. 140 SEC. +40C 1 SEC. 19 SEC. 70 SEC. +70C 1 SEC. 16 SEC. 20 SEC. |

Mine through the GP#4 bad code this week, also 7v Etecnos that were replaced in February. I checked the resistance through the harness and it shows #4 as an open. Either it went really bad or there's a harness issue. Already have a RMA from IDParts just in case. |
