Post subject:  ID Parts Oil Drain Tube Too Short?

Just received my "new style" turbo oil drain tube (1 128 2043 F) from ID Parts (with flexible center section). It only measures 10" from the flange face to where it enters the block and 13" in total length. It seems to me that the OEM solid one we took out and failed miserably at resealing (grommet was torn) was quite a bit longer than that. (Hope I am wrong.)

Does anyone know what the correct length for this part is? (I do not have access to the vehicle, now.)

(The bolts that came with it are also only about an inch long in total length, including the head.)

Need to get right part to the shop ASAP.

THANKS!

That should be the same as the one that came out, and I would just re-use the bolts if they don't match for some reason. Maybe the flange on the new one is thinner than the original? It isn't like it is holding back pressure, so I have seen some that were certainly overbuilt for the job.

If my memory is right the bolt length sounds ok. Cannot comment on tube length.

Well, the OEM rigid pipe took 10 min to remove. The "upgraded" one took three hours to wrangle in because of the larger flange, different gasket and bolts. Ran for 20 min on lift without leaks. Now, let's see if it lasts.

Doc, what bolts did you end up using?

Short ones that came with it.

Thanks Doc, I plan on replacing my turbo soon, and I want to replace the oil lines with new, wanted to know if there are any issues with the new redesigned pipe bolts.

As long as the turbo bracket is out of the way, you should not have a problem installing the new style. It was almost impossible for us to install. We applied a tremendous amount of torque to the bracket bolt in the turbo and it did not budge. We stopped because of not wanting to snap the head off the bolt.

Eventually got it installed, though.
