Hi All
I'm new to the site and hope someone can help with a problem I have with a 2007 Cherokee 2.8 CRD. It is fitted with the Italian diesel engine and Auto Transmission.

It developed a knocking noise which from outside sounds like a main bearing knock on the crank, but on closer inspection the noise is coming from the top of the engine. It starts up fine, does not smoke out the back, but although it is running on all cylinders it is down on power by about 40%.

There are no engine management lights on the dashboard.

i would be grateful for any idea's what could be the cause of this problem and any fixes that could be suggested.

Thanks and have a great day

Rooster

Howdy Rooster - Welcome to LOST

you should repost this in 'CRD...Love that Torque' it's the main discussion section

the Noob guide has a lot of information

I don't know the answer to your question - other folks have done more troubleshooting.

and 2007 CRD not in the US - might mention where you are and any mods/maintenance issues.

First guess would be a broken rocker or two.

How many miles on the engine?

What oil have you been using?

How many miles between oil changes?

Was the timing belt done, if so then how many miles ago?

Looking at your problem from my desk, I am thinking that you have a few broken rockers.

You need to open her up and see what has happened.
