Gotta love Canada and our dealer networks. Can you believe I took my Jeep to a nice local reputable mechanic here in Vancouver as my belt was starting to disintegrate. Anyways he just called me to let me know the belt and Tensioner Pulley are dealer sold only parts. Local dealership wants $278 for the belt and $383 for the tensioner pulley. My mechanic says that is Highway Robbery with a capital H!! He says he can find me an aftermarket belt for $78 but he has had no luck finding an after market tensioner pulley.

Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

ID Parts (original Litens part number 5072440AB)
http://www.idparts.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=29_90

Ebay (aftermarket - Crown 5072440AB)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tensioner-Serpe ... 1e8a8bc3b1

I need one too, so I might just order the Crown unit at $75 delivered vs. $159 for the Litens.

Buy the timing belt kit from ID Parts, it is your best buy and they ship north to Canada.
Do yourself a favor; Do not buy any Crown part, they have a bad reputation for not holding up!
Destroying your motor is not worth saving a few bucks. If that tensioner pulley comes apart and loses the belt, it will take out the rockers and possibly break a valve; things get real ugly from there! :grim:

There are some on this list who can testify to this!

No doubt! They can't even make a thermostat that doesn't require you to seal and tighten the hose barbs!

I can vouch for this option. $15 flat fee + 10% to cover import fees and taxes which is less than HST here in Ontario . All in pricing means no nasty surprises when your order gets delivered. The downside is that they only ship once a week and it's a bit slow.

Of course you always have the option to choose a faster method for more $$$ plus the opportunity to bend over for the UPS guy when he delivers

Thanks for all your help yous. I contacted ID parts and they shipped priority (1-3 business days) international with brokerage fees and all delivered to my place for $240. Much better than the $383+tax quoted by Daimler Chrysler. Thanks again.

Stay away from Crown! I don't purchase, resell, install, or recommend anything from Crown. I can get the tensioners (OE) cheaper than that...

Perhaps this is the wrong place to ask this question but...

I'm also in Canada (Ontario), and I've got my timing belt kit and t-stat in from ID parts already... But I'm having trouble sourcing the tools to do it. Aside from buying them for a one time only job (maybe 2). The locking pins and such are cheap enough to buy buy it's the cam gear holder that is quite pricey. Sasquatch rents them out but won't ship to Canada. But they said they could sell set with the gates cam holder for $265. I certainly understand the hassle of trying to ship a'rental' across the border. I'd rather not buy the tools if I don't have to.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Should probably mention I'm in the Toronto -London area.

Thanks,
Cory

See http://www.beesvillebeefarm.com/jeep.html

Comments
1. as per the post you can make the cam pins from common metric bolts - see my post in the CRD tech forum for dimensions.
2. see 05 FSM (http://colorado4wheel.com/manuals/Jeep/KJ/) for how to use an allen key to pin flywheel (be sure crank bolts are perfectly vertical/horizontal and that the slight notch near those bolts is at 3 o'clock)
3. any tool that will let you hold each cam gear stationary while loosening/tightening cam bolts will do. IIRC geordi uses a VW tool
4. if you are doing water pump just replace front half with new "O" ring and avoid the hassle of removing the entire pump as the back half has no moving parts.
5. you can tighten the tensioner with an appropriate pin spanner or use 2 crossed 3mm hex keys.

Thanks Papaindigo!

I'll definitely look at making my own pins if I can't find a place to get my hands on the tools up here.
