installing new torque converter should I replace pump or just install transgo kit? Jeep is slow to go into gear after sitting a few hours. Shutters bad pulling boat and shutters some when solo going up hills. Jeep has 120,000 and has had new timing belt but when I don't know. Plan on replacing belt this winter. Other than the EHM Jeep is stock.

What year is your jeep? Some older 2006 models had the redesigned front pump, but with the miles on your jeep it wouldn't be a bad idea to grab the pump either.. it's like doing the timing belts and NOT changing the water pump... is it still good, sure but you still just do it plus you'll have peace of mind having the better updated pump thats brand new if you didnt already

what happens if you shift to neutral for 30sec before going into forward or reverse?
might be the drain back valve in the filter..not the pump..
just a thought..

If you go to the trouble to pull the transmission to replace the torque converter, absolutely replace the front pump, install a Transgo Kit, replace all filters, and fill with new fluid ATF+4.
There is are pistons in bores and seals in the front pump that wear out over time and need to be replaced....

Doesn't the transgo kit supply the pistons and seals needed? yes when I wait 30 seconds or if I shift into netural first it shifts normal.

Not the ones in the front pump! Second, yes this is also a sign of front pump wear.... :!:

mine does the same thing. it has 203,000 miles and has done it ever since ive had it. im going to pull mine this winter and do a complete rebuild,,if it last that long. I put a quart of lucas trans treatment in mine and it went from doing it 3-4 times a day to maybe once a week.
