Does anyone know what type of hitch are they putting on for the recall? What class is it? What would u be able to tow? Only reason I ask this because my dealer said I could buy one and they would reimburse me for the cost and put it on for me. |

The replacement is a "Mopar" brand hitch which should be equal to the original OEM factory hitch PN 52059224AC which is a standard 2" receiver type hitch which as I recall is rated to 5,000lbs towing 500 lbs tongue although I would not go that high without trailer brakes and some weight distribution arrangement. I will say that hitch handles ca. 2,500lbs of boat or uHaul trailer, neither with brakes, just fine. I suspect but do not know: 1. I would not believe the reimbursement promise unless it's in writing and even then only if the installed hitch is Mopar. What I've seen is quite specific that the recall only covers installation of the Mopar brand hitch either as a new install, replacement for a non-OEM hitch, or replacement for a damaged hitch. 2. this install is ONLY to protect the fuel tank from certain rear end collisions so I strongly suspect the install will not come with the wiring and such to support trailer lights and, if needed, brakes like was provided with a factory hitch install. |

and regarding wiring, you have options. simple is a 4 pin setup for trailers with no brakes, you want to tow anything with breaks, it can get complicated. You may need to add wiring harness's to your crd, and it varies depending on the options of your CRD (evic in particular), plus you need to consider a brake controller as well. |
