I haven't had a chance to look at my wife's Liberty yet but she was on her way to work this morning. She said as she was driving there was a whine and a pop. The jeep still runs but she says as she drives it there is a whine to it and sounds like a jet engine. Any ideas for me to look for when I get home?

I would agree that it is a boost hose. The same thing have happened to me, loud whistling noise then a pop, followed by poor performance and a small trail of black smoke.

got home and took off all the hoses - cleaned and inspected them - no rip or tears and all hoses were fitted tight. I put everything back together and got out onto the road. Drove it normal - got on it hard, Nothing. went out with the wife driving around and eventually started to hear a slight whine but I cannot tell where it is. It seems to run fine and has lots of power. I'm gonna be pounding my head on this one.

What makes you think it is the turbo?
Most failures are either it pumps oil into the exhaust, or it has too much play on the shaft.

Drove it the next morning and you can here it whine up and then like it locked up. Whine up and lock up after that was a sheet metal rattle combined with a horrible bearing growl and lots of smoke out the tail pipe. Limped it back home and parked it. Horrible timing to lose a major component ( not that is ever a good time ) been cleaning and fixing up a rental for friend after work but now wife and I are down to 1 vehicle now.
