Post subject:  Broken MAP sensor :(

Hey guys, new to the forum. Just picked up an 06 crd, 220 k and run down by slobs!. Started tinkering and gathering supplies to do all the maintenance and mods suggested here. Ran into a major problem, while trying to remove the MAP sensor it broke clean off just above the o-ring, looks like it was never touched before. I haven't started to try to retrieve the cage looking piece that's still in there yet as I had to get some tools I thought would be suitable for the job. Just wondering if anyone else had had this happen?

Never heard of that. Thoughts:
1) I assume the "bulb" came out in which case you should already have a hole at the top of the cage. If so grab an appropriate size tap and thread the hole for a bolt or just use the tap as a "handle" to remove the cage and to keep it from falling into the intake.
2) before attempting to extract it I'd recommend a good soaking in either or both penetrating lube and carb cleaner to get rid of the crud that's probably somewhat gluing the cage in place.

Once removed a cheaper than OEM replacement is BOSCH #0 281 002 845 or GM PN 55206797 per MrMopar64

Thanks papaindigo! Yes the bulb was still attached to the sensor, I'm going to search today for some type of skinny hooked tool to get underneath, little bit of penetrant may help too. I plan to try to get under the lip and pull upwards. With the tap I worry too much will fall down inside, I'll take some pics and put them up later, but from what I can see it's absolutely clogged with gunk.

Here is a thought.

1. Remove the intake elbow.

2. Get yourself a mini Shop Vac with the 1 1/4" diameter flexible hose, detach the hard plastic nozzle from the flexible hose.

3. Snake the flexible hose inside the intake as far as possible to reach where the MAF sensor is and vacuum the broken part out.

See if that works.

:2cents:

So I called around today for the sensor, now this is Canadian prices but napa wanted $240, dealer wanted $180 and I bought it online at idparts.com for $25. Shipped to my door fedex priority for $90 total. Had trouble finding it tho, most list it as an "air charged temp sensor" . Going at the extraction tomorrow morning! I'm dying to get this thing up and running, only had it out a couple times but I've taken to it already, love the grunty whistling of it! Seems to be abit underpowered at the moment but I know it's just been run down a little. Give er some new fluids and filters and see where I'm at! Another snag I'm running Into is I want to get the filter done at the same time so I have more room around the sensor. But if I can't run it without the sensor I can't really depressurize the system.

Should have went to GM. I got a spare from my local dealer for $25.00 CDN including taxes.

WolverineFW, GM PN 55206797 ? What vehicle and engine does this belong to?

No idea....just know from previous threads that it is the same Bosch sensor that is used in our CRD. Looks the same to me and a couple members have already been running them with no issues that I have heard.

FullPen - don't know and don't have time to check but DCJ has used it on some vehicles and I offer the chat at viewtopic.php?f=5&t=74785&p=795846&hilit=55206797#p795846 for functionality comments.

Just incase anyone was losing sleep wondering if I got it out...... Lol, I did manage to get it out with a rubber hose taped to my shop vac, it sucked it up as soon as I put it in actually, I then continued a little to try and suck some of the sludge out. Man there was allot of build up in there. After I cleaned what I could and buttoned her back up I left the hose off by accident to the intake elbow/flap and tried to start it. Obviously it didn't start. I then quickly put it back on correctly and tried again. No dice! Just for a laugh I put the code reader on it and got these codes
P1252 vac res control circ high
P0102 Maf (unplugged)
P0401 EGR flow insuff.
P0299 Turbo underboost

Now after I cleared these codes and tried to start it again it still won't fire, and no new codes came up. Now it was having this issue before I even got it where it would start sometimes and not others, but eventually I could get it going. Figured it was a fuel issue. I then bled the fuel line and tried again, nothing still. Started checking fuses, haven't found anything yet. Any suggestions on what and how to check may help me along my way! Cheers!
