I'm pretty sure I have a wheel speed sensor out, but I have no idea where they are or how many I have. Im basing my opinion on what others have said. I have a 2005 crd and the ABS brakes will activate sometimes when stopping on dry pavement. Sometimes (everytime it rains) when I hit small bumps in the road my ABS light and brake light will illuminate and stay on until I shut the vehicle off and restart it. I also noticed that when both of these lights come on. My odometer and trip freeze up.

Is there a way to narrow down the problem with those symptoms? I may have a loose wire, but I'm hoping Tha its a simple snsore that I can fix.

Common 05 problem is partially or completely broken wire INSIDE the insulation near the rear wheel sensor which I believe is on top of the differential. Should be able to be located by checking for continuity.

You also have L and R front wheel sensors that should be easy to see with the tire removed.

I have the same problem. Is everyone finding its the rear sensor, and it can be fixed by simply replacing it? I don't have the time to do much more than replace it. This already got "fixed" once by my mechanic, hardly lasted a year, and I just want to finally get rid of this issue.

If the sensor itself is bad then replacing it will fix the problem. However, if the wire is broken inside the insulation then replacing the sensor won't fix the problem although the "act" of replacing might temporarily cause the broken wires the make contact in which case the problem will go away for a while. The only fix for the wire problem is to splice in new heavier duty wire.

Symptoms will be logged as DTC failure error - have the KJ scanned for more pertinent and specific pointer to area of concern - you'll need the errors cleared after repair to prevent further anomalies

I recently had a bolt back out on my front passenger side caliper bracket. Fixed the problem, but my ABS light is still on and my odometer has stopped working. I'll let you know if a new sensor and wires fixes it.

I agree with all of papaindigos' comments....there was also a FSM issued for all 2005 KJs that the wrong rear differential oil may have been put in at the factory...this oil eats up the rear diff sensor.

The fix was to have the dealer drain the diff oil, re-fill with proper oil and fit a new diff sensor but first check the sensor's connector and wiring.

If you get any codes it should tell you which sensor is causing the problem. :?

This might help if all else fails. I had the same problem replaced the rear sensor, abs light still on, Replaced the pigtail and wire abs light still on. Replaced the diff oil abs light went out.

So what is the correct oil to replace in diff? And by chance does it run cooler after changing fluids? Mine seems to run a little bit hot. My theory is that the abs brake lights illuminate when the diff. Fluid gets hit as it's usually once I hit about 70mph. Maybe hit fluid causes more intrusion into sensor? Just spitting out random thoughts.
