When I am driving down the highway the electric throttle sensor will pop on and start flashing. The battery symbol will also come on at the same time but it goes away after 10 sec or so. the flashing ECT will stay on until the jeep is turned off then it will come back on after a little while?

probably your alternator going bad , try to see if came again when you restart the engine after a ride , hot engine . if not is a GP , if yes is an electric issue ......battery , alternator etcc , try to pull a code

The lights do come back when the engine is hot. when It comes on I stop turn it off then turn it back on and the light is gone but when driving a little while again the light will come back on.

try to pull a code , so it is not easy, it seems a problem of alternator, measure the battery voltage, if it is 12.6 12.5 is ok , 12.7-12.8 wen is new, and try to measure with engine idling if the alternator is ok , the voltage stay about 13.8 to 14 if I remember correctly

Does your transmission shift correctly when it does this?

My 2006 Jeep Liberty CRD 240,000 miles is having the same problem. Previously the problem was the left rear wheel speed sensor.

I am going to change the alternator today and see if that helps my problem. I have some dust on my alternator so I do not mind throwing that part at it without further diagnostics.

I replaced the accelerator pedal already - no change

I have also read and been told by a dealership that this can be a wheel speed sensor issue, anything in the accelerator pedal system or any ground.

I have no codes.

Others have had ground issues. Possibly the wire loom behind the Fuel filter.

Search lightening bolt light for more references on this issue.

Please post what you find.

Yes I've had the same lights!

Mine were number 1 glow plug the 1st time
Number 3 the second time so I changed
Number two at the same time!

Now waiting for number 4 to go, that's the
Horrible one to get at!

Regards

What diagnostics did you do to figure out where your problem was? How did you figure out which glow plug was bad?

if the GP are failed , the etc lite come on only when the engine is cold on mine , BTW , read the Ohm from each GP and see if you have 0,7 -0,9 OHM if you have more , it's a bad GP

I swapped the alternator and am still getting the light.

Do the glow plugs throw codes?

I have no codes.

I am going to check the wheels speed sensors next. Does anybody have any info on checking the wheel speed sensors?

Where is the best place to go to get the code checked?

I am getting alignment done tomorrow and can take it to another local mechanic then. I have an appointment with the same mechanic next Wednesday.

I can go to the local dealer after that.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I just did a small check of the odometer GPS showed 8.6 miles which I know to be correct and the odometer showed 8.4 miles. Not much of a test but it showed what I thought it would.
I tried to add a picture of the codes that came up. Hope it's usable. Any advice would be appreciated.

How can you tell if the glow plugs are bad? I think it's the alternator but I don't know how that would cause the ETC to start blinking. The battery light will come on during the drive but will go away then come back on while driving. I think it's the alternator but not positive due to the dash and headlights flickering.

Have the alternator tested and/or replaced. You could have bad battery cables or a bad ground - I'm not a fan of our battery cables. I plan on redoing mine sometime.

I don't know if this is significant or not but I do not loose any power when I am accelerating.

I looked at my battery cables and the negitive cable wasn't tight at all. I'm still experiencing the same problems after tightening the battery cable. I pulled a code and the code was for system high voltage and the maf sensor.

change your alternator or generator probably the internal circuit are damaged

Post subject:  Re: Electric throttle control light??

Do you think it would be the alternator? Just recently the brake light has been coming on with the etc and the battery light but the etc flashing light is the only one that stays on. The other two will come and go while driving when they do appear
