Can I put a new 454rfe transmission in my jeep or does it have to be from our years, 2005-06?

I keep seeing used transmissions for sale from newer ram trucks and I wanted to know if they would fit or if it would require to change out parts to make it work.

If you own a CRD, you want the transmission to be from a CRD. The gear ratios are pretty different. Is there something wrong with yours?

Third is slipping bad. Needs to be rebuilt and I am exploring options.

I'm pretty sure all 545rfe transmissions are the same
The only differences are in the TCM for each vehicle.

Gear ratios are the same across all of them. The transmission case for the CRD is different from those used behind gasoline engines.

The transmission casing should be the same, the bell housing might be different, but that doesn't make any sense to me. Auto makers are cheap, they won't want to make a different adapter if they don't absolutely have to. I can't recall what the boneyard Trans I bought came from, but I don't think I was specific about it being a CRD unit when I was looking.

I put a 545rfe from a Ram into one of my CRD's. I had to swap a few parts from the output end of the old one to the new one. No problem.
