The only way to really know if it is cooled down is to install an EGT gage. I have towed heavy loads and it takes 5-10 min or longer to get the temp down to 350 deg F which is the acceptable temp to shut down. I will be installing one in my CRD as I plan on towing a lot with heavy loads up to rated capacity. Maybe more but who knows.

The nice thing about synthetic oils is they don't coke like traditional dino based oils do. In fact Amsoil acts to disolve anycoking build up that has occured.

I ran an 85 Volvo 2.8 Turbo Diesel for 312K mi and the original turbo was still spooling up and it was getting 30 mpg. And yes it was treated to the fine quality Amsoil.
