So...the pulley on the serpentine belt tensioner is the same as the other idler pulleys. Is there any reason I should spend the 4-times amount to get the full tensioner when I could just replace the pulley? How likely is it that the spring in that thing has fatigued at all, really? |

Unless the spring is broken it should be ok so just replace the tensioner idler pulley |

9/10 times the pulley is fine but the spring breaks. If you pulley is bad but spring is good just put a new pulley on and count yourself lucky! |
