I installed the GDE Full Torque Eco-Tune a few days ago. Read the codes with the flash tool and pulled the Glow Plug Codes: P0672, P0673, P0674. Erased them, ran the car through a few driving cycles then did another read. Same codes.

Anything else to consider other than bad plugs, bad harness, or torn up wires?

Anybody ever get these as junk or phantom codes?

Thoughts? Experiences?

I had 671 and 672. Junk plugs. The tips were missing on those.

Probably valid codes for bad ceramic glow plugs. IIRC it's pretty easy to check glow plugs for the proper resistance with a volt/ohm meter although I'm not "up" on exactly how but there are posts on the topic. IMHO your best bet on replacement are the drop in 7v metal ones from http://www.dieselglowplug.com/gx3123-di ... kkhtcoiad0 that cost about $170 depending on Euro exchange rate and shipping which is competative with the cost of the OEM 5v replacements when you factor in that the 5vs require an ECU flash.

See viewtopic.php?f=5&t=56696&p=630729&hilit=glow+removal#p630729 for a decent how to on replacing the old glow plugs.

Thanks, Papa. Great info, as always.

I would recommend that anyone who has over 75k miles and is still running the Ceramic glow plugs replace them with the 7v Etecno's.

I had to pull the head on mine to get pieces. I would be utterly shocked to hear that anyone with more than 75k had removed their ceramic plugs and didn't have at least part of the tips inside the cylinder. These plugs should've been a recall, but I guess they pass the extended 70k mile warranty so even Chrysler doesn't care about them.

Changing these plugs is an ordeal. Anyone that tells you otherwise is probably a mechanic anyways and used to spending 4+ hours taking engine stuff apart on a regular basis (See: CRD owner).:ROTFL:

Anyways, it's a chore and a half but it will remove the codes. I believe even the Chrysler 5v ones that require an ECU flash are Ceramic, they were in all the kits I checked out.

Follow the instructions on Papa's link, that's how I did mine.

Plugs tested. Three of the plugs are dead. Ordered the 7v's. All four being replaced.

Thanks again, everyone.

Tuesday: All original plugs replaced with 7v Steel Drop-Ins. CEL was off for the first time in a long while. Jeep was running great.

Until tonight.

Jeep hits 65,000 mile mark and the dash lights went apesh*t. Jeep starts losing power. I parked it. All dash lights are on. During shutdown procedure, Jeep loses power. Then Jeep shuts itself off.

See my new thread on this if you're interested.

Does it ever end?

~M~

Had to do mine tonight. 100k miles. GP #3 was dead. All were intact. I had EGR delete from early miles, like 30K maybe that helps? Run synthetic oil as well since day I got it with 15000 miles.

I got the glow plugs out thanks to this tutorial in a couple hours. Would have been quicker if the darn 5mm Allen key head bolts weren't made of swiss cheese. I left the valve on the elbow and removed whole. Didn't need to move the fuel filter, plenty of room. Took off the alternator completely since it was just easier that way for 1 & 2.

Etecno 7v on the way already. Also Weeks elbow is winging its way here as well.
