Post subject:  AC Condenser / AT cooler replacement steps?

Is anyone aware of a write-up for replacement of the unit AC Condenser and AT cooler on the CRD? I know part of the tear-down that some people do for the timing belt includes this stuff, but I'm interested in a bare minimum removal kind of list.

My A/C shop was nice enough to confirm that the small leak I had right at the seam between the two chambers was indeed the refrigerant and that they'd be happy to evacuate/recharge everything for me once I replaced the condenser (or charge me 3 hrs labor plus parts to do it for me).

First off before attempting removal you need to have the shop evacuate the system so you don't vent AC refrigerant to atmosphere. From there take a look at steps 1-7 or Sir Sam's timing belt writeup in conjunction with pages 24-56 to 57 of the 2005 FSM (not the 06 as the illustration lacks the key) which you can get from the NOOB guide if you have not already done so. Then once replaced revisit them to recharge the system.

Was it me and you have a good shop I'd pay them for the 3 hours.

I already asked them if they'd capture the current charge for me for free if I used them to evacuate/recharge it after the new condenser is in ($60 I think). I thought that was fair considering materials and time required. I priced out the tools and materials to do it myself and it was about twice that.

Their shop rate is 90/h, which isn't bad, but there's a few things I want to take a look at while everything's torn down, so it might be an afternoon well-spent... I suspect 3 hours may be a little generous for what needs to be done.

So, if I'm replacing the condenser, are there some specific wear items I should expect to replace (gaskets, seals, fittings, etc.)? I want to avoid as much downtime as possible and pre-order everything (the local shops around me tend to be horribly stocked).

I just ordered one of these off Amazon for the KJ. Hopefully it'll have everything that's needed:
