Tear down has started. I'm not at the point of pinning the cams but to tired and don't want to mess that one up. Nice and dry under the timing belt cover and a bit of a leak in the intercooler. Off to get JB Weld in the AM.
Big question, there was a temperature sensor in the original thermostat but not in the new so I'll reuse it.
Should I use teflon tape or just tighten it up, brass sensor into the Al housing.
I've looked in the fiche and service manual and can't even find a diagram with the sensor.

I used a thread sealant on mine. I wasn't sure that teflon tape wouldn't interfere with the grounding of the sensor.

Yea, like Mike said.
I use a Teflon pipe thread sealant.
Nice shop. What's taped to the floor? You are much too neat

The wife's car is outside so this is the compromise while this project goes on. She doesn't want grease blobs on the garage floor
It's just heavy rosin paper.

I used Nylog to seal my sensor.

Found this sitting on the valve cover behind the rear timing belt cover. Just sitting there.
Any ideas?

And the tear down is complete...

I have to admire the cleaningness of your garage and engine compartment, very neat!

You may want to look into getting Jeff's (turbo diesel freak) thermostat, a bit pricey but looks very promising.

I used Teflon Tape with no issues on 6. That green part came from somewhere else.

She's alive! Run up went well, though did have to retension the timing belt after.
Now to fix an intercooler leak and put every thing back on.
