on my 05 crd, in the morning or after the jeep sits for several hours I get a grinding noise, sounds like a brake hanging up, it is in the driveline, not engine. The noise continues for about 1-2 minutes then stops. It increases in speed as my speed increases. I can't find anything wrong with the brakes. Any suggestions????

More information needed (more descriptions and checks that you've done) please.

Verify that it isn't the brakes.
I have had a couple of instances with the brakes dragging, the parking brake can get corroded and bind up also (mine did on both CRDs).
Does any of the wheels feel hot after a short drive?
First thing that I would do, is jack up each axle, and rotate the tires listening for noise and feeling for resistance.

If the motor mounts shot, you should hear them when moving from full stop forward or backward. Pls try to eliminate this if possible, so we know it's not that. They should make noise on engine cold and warm obviously. Than try to engage 4wd and see if the noise changes.

I checked all the wheels and they are all cool after driving, motor mounts are all good, the noise only happens when jeep has been sitting for 5 or more hours, it is a grrrr.grrrrr...grrr.ggggr.gggggr, the sound increases with speed and is not in the engine, (i tried turning it off and coasting) the noise continued. after driving 1/2 mi it just has a slight clunk and stops making the noise. I tried applying the e brake. that made no difference, I tried putting it in 4wd, that made no difference.....it has me stumped.

You're still making us guess a bit, but if I were you I'd start by checking the U-joints in your driveline. Or wheel bearings. But U-joints first.

Either that, or based on your previous post you may have a tiger lurking in the cargo area.

I agree on checking the "U" joints and add the axle slip joint. Just a reminder you need to drop the axle to really check the "U" joints.

Since the engine doesn't make noises while idling, and motor mounts are not bad, the best possible spot to look would be the drive axles (ujoints) and also see if you have enough oil in the diffs, even though that usually translates into a whine.

Totally agree with checking U joints thoroughly and discounting them plus as papaindigo wrote the slip joint. Something in that driveline area is strongly indicated given the noise continues during coasting and is proportionate to speed of travel.
As greiswig wrote - still making us guess a bit can you think of sny more descriptors.

Do you have highway tires or AT, tires can some times make noises that sound mechanical, maybe they warm up and the noise stops? Try a tire rotation and see if it changes any thing.

Have you looked at the rear boot of the front driveshaft? Also I agree to drop rear driveshaft and check motion of joints. Can't really do it with the shaft in place.

I am taking the jeep into a friends shop next week, I will do a good check of the ujoints and everything else I can find.....I just dont understand why it only happens after sitting several hours and stops after about 1/2 mi of dirving??????I would think all these things would continue all the time?????

It can do dunny things like take up the slack through expanding after working even for a short while. Throws a real furphy into the mix then when it all cools down again the clearances increase and so it can happens again ....just to trip you up and into thinking it can't possibly happen.

had my Jeep to a very good diesel mechanic yesterday, we did the timing belt, started at 8am done by 11:30.....could not find anything wrong in the drive train when he suggested
we take a test drive, it made the noise....he said it has to be a wheel bearing, we checked it and it seamed ok not loose but we replaced it on the passenger side and...................................NO MORE NOISE! The old one was not loose but was bad and would hardly turn after we got it off.
