Going in for my third on Saturday.

Original Optima Red Top - Jun '06 to Dec '09 = 39 months = 4 Phoenix summers
1st Platinum - Dec '09 to Jul '12 = 31 months = 2.5 Phoenix summers
2nd Platinum - Jul '12 - Oct '14 = 26 months = 2.5 Phoenix summers

Disappointing although I feel locked in now since it's only $20 to replace. Still.

Should I bite the bullet and switch?

get a new one and relocate it behind the back seat? Use the extra space for a unique pump and 2nd fuel filter like an airdog? I know the heat in AZ can cook the battery.
Is a blanket to protect it from radiant heat help there? Cooling air snorkel to the grille? I had a AC Delco in my Ford Contour for 2 yrs before I sold it. Still going strong and I killed it completely several times. Left radio amp on while parked and last winter when I stored it. I charged it with my Schumaker electronic charger and it recovered nicely.

wow I thought they were solid batteries. I switched to the Platinum after having so much trouble and 3 replacements of the Advance Autoparts Gold lead acid battery last winter. I finally made Advance give a refund and I went to sears. no issues with the Platinum yet

I spent two hours at Sears. For some reason they had to charge the battery for an hour to determine it was bad which it is. Then, they told me a replacement would be $166 prorated back to '09 when I first bought a Platinum. Why would I spend that on a battery that lasts no longer than anything else?

So long Diehard. I'm going with AAA - 690CCA with three year full replacement that they'll replace wherever my Jeep is. And, I ordered that battery minder thing that tj recommended.

I see this thread is about a month old now but I must say I've been running two Diehard platinum's in my 04 superduty. One died last year and one died this year. As long as they keep giving me free batteries I'll keep taking them but the original purchase was in '11 so I think the jig is up soon. On the other hand I have an old used actual Odyssey in my BIG jeep(Diehard platinums are supposed to be Odysseys). I bought it from a guy who was getting them used out of HMMV's. It's so old I can't even tell how old it is and I let it sit until it dies fairly often. I just charge it back up and it's good to go. Not sure what they're doing to the ones they sell through sears but they're definitely not as good quality.

I feel that the Sears battery quality had fallen significantly since Kmart bought them out. I bought diehard most of my life but no longer.

I get mine at Costco. The Kirkland brand was made by Johnson Controls and there sucked. Every 2 years I would have to go and get my free batteries. I was in there in September to get my third pair free batteries and they now are selling Interstate batteries. :D

I got a NAPA Legend 850 CCA about 2 years ago, about $70. So far no issues. The original Optima lasted 7 years. It didn't catastrophically fail or cause any starting or "ghost" issues, just noticed slower engine cranking.

FYI you can get genuine Odyssey battery for 20% with free shipping until end of Nov:

http://www.odysseybattery.com/

I just ordered one for my daughters 2006 Liberty. Things cooled off into the 20's here and that CRD started to crank a little slow, so I figured the battery was getting old. I ran an Odyssey in my boat, was an incredible battery.

The battery was $220 shipped with this discount.

Mike
