difference in torque converters?

Keith @ GDE sent me 3 #'s for the euro TC... and said I need to shop around for the best price.

68037142AA This part # has been superseded by R8037142aa

R8037142AA This # is currently available and 'online price' of $235

RL037142AA This # also available, and online price of $375

Both require a $100 core, so I'm thinking both are rebuilt...

So, anybody know the difference? ( besides the $140! :roll:

"R" = rebuilt. I don't know the difference between R and R8

The "R" is substituted for the 1st digit "6" - else is identical: 8037142AA - "L" is substuted for 2nd digit "8" = ????

man, this is confusing! I went into moparpartsovertock.com and typed in those numbers... and it gave me a picture of a TC, with about 6 different numbers that 'interchange' with.. so yes, it'll bolt up and drive the vehicle, no doubt... BUT! is it the 'upgraded' part?? :dizzy:

Then, I've spent many hours in here reading all the information on the beloved suncoast, of course the many posts on the 'euro'.. a few mentioning Edge TC products.. and then the hemi truck TC... some posters are also running the hemi trucks' TCM.. with detailed instructions on how to 'teach' the new computer to manage the jeep..
From what I've read, the Hemi's TC is 'identical' to the suncoast... without the billet cover, and the Kevlar friction material?? (it has the heavy springs tho..)
I'm not going to worry about saving a couple hundred bucks... especially when the trans. is laying on the ground! Do it once and PLAN on many many miles of worry free service... Right?
Maybe I'm overthinking what's available.. but when I see two 'identical' parts listed in the same place.. with 140 buck difference, makes me wonder! I noticed too the similarities of the above numbers.. possible the dang things ARE the same, but had different issue dates.. one number is just older in the system.

The part #'s are written in stone - the suffix(es) indicates chronology..................................

Advise from someone who went through 3 converters on a powered up Dodge diesel before I bit the bullet and bought the high priced Suncoast. Never had a problem with the TC anymore, so I chose to put a Suncoast in my Jeep CRD when it started the SHUDDER thing in lock up along with a new front pump / housing and a Transgo kit. I did not want to repeat the expensive lesson I learned on the Dodge. You think the Jeep Suncoast is expensive, buy one for a Dodge diesel, 1,800 in the box!!!! :shock:

If you want the best and toughest TC; buy the Suncoast and never look back! I have never read of anyone on this list saying they still had slippage problems after installing a Suncoast. On the other hand, I have read some posts by some on here who have installed the euro and still encountered the dreaded SHUDDER...

I'll make sure I have the upgraded front pump too. Mine is a late '06, so I at least have a good chance it's there already. ( stealer did a check for me, said TC was replaced and front pump in '07-09)

They are not associated with Edge programmers though.
