Given the finicky nature of our CRD's and the lack of support from Chrysler, what kind of parts would you carry around as spares on the road? My hope was to get a good list of pats that can be replaced by your average Joe out on the road that might be difficult to get quickly.

My first thoughts are:

Cam Position Sensor
Crank Position Sensor
Fuel Filter

What else?

I can think of a ton of parts that "might" break on the road and some of them are CRD specific such that if one breaks you would be parked until you can get the part. How many of those you want to carry is a individual call. Those 2 sensors are not too pricey and might be worth having. A fuel filter is probably a good idea although I've been driving diesels for years and never had to change one but one tank of bad fuel could change that.

Find a donor CRD and a tow bar, that would cinch it but a killer on mileage. :ROTFL:

I would recommend a spare hose clamp or 2 for boost hoses, for the different sizes. FYI, if you do loose a hose clamp on the highway, big rig repair shops should have the “correct” hose clamps for silicone boost hoses. Be sure to have the tools necessary to change any parts you have. I have a spare fuel filter with me, it is in a ziplock bag inside of its box to keep dust out of it.

Alternator decoupler pulley and the 2 tools required to change it, a spare asd relay wouldn't take up much room either.

Fuel filter
crank position sensor
ignition switch actuator pin

I think most other things give some warning.

I keep a roll of Gorilla tape under the back seat in case of boost hose burst. I keep a spare filter at home usually and carry it on trips over a few hundred miles which isn't often. other than the tool kit I have in the back that is just small socket set and ratchet, a few screw drivers, an adjustable wrench, Jumper cables. and in winter or if off roading is planned a tow strap is added.
