Post subject:  Rear Wiper Issue?

Alright, so apparently the rear wiper motor I _THOUGHT_ was burned out, is in fact working fine. However now I realize that there was some kind of Powder in there or something that hardened, and it appears the threads are now stripped or they won't tighten enough to make the wiper work, it just turns inside the nut.

Anyone have a similar issue?

I'm thinking maybe some Red Loc-Tite would make it shore up inside there, but I don't want to make it where I have to break the motor to get the wiper off...

Anyone dealt with this thing before? Is it a known issue?

I'm going to google it, but I always come here first.

Thanks guys!

Do you mean the nut that holds the wiper to the motor shaft won't tighten? If so are the threads on the motor shaft stripped or is it the threads on the nut? If the former perhaps you can freshen them up with an appropriate, metric I suspect, die. If the latter get new nut. If neither of those options work 1) replace motor or 2) clean things up (shaft; nut; and inside of wiper base that fits over shaft which may be tapered but I don't recall) apply suitable adhesive (Loctite red might do) to all the mating surfaces and tighten enough to cause the Loctite to cure. The latter may not be possible so consider other adhesives.

FYI if you look at the arm and blade assembly closely you can pop the blade off the arm. I was unable to find a replacement blade with the odd plastic blade to arm clip BUT I did, with a bit of fiddling, find you could remove the clip from the OEM blade assembly, purchase a 12" blade from NAPA (60-012-B), install the clip on the NAPA blade, and install the "hybrid" blade on the factory arm. The OEM blade is 11" but the 12" replacement works just fine.

I think that the powder you mentioned is just corrosion from the aluminum components. You can use some penetrating oil like pb blaster or a light phosphoric acid (just watch the paint, you can buy it as spray or from Home Depot in plastic cans - phosphoric acid is the best in removing corrosion since it will leave a protective coating on the metal).

It had happened few times for me, especially on the wipers, this is the reason I use white lithium grease, it acts as a sealant and prevents corrosion to form.

Hexus, btw, idparts has the rear wiper, I got the whole blade from them few months ago, the price is also good, 10-15 bucks or something like that...
