Post subject: | Timing belt success |
I have been lurking for some time, figuring out my new to me CRD. As it has 96k miles on it, it was timing belt time. I read everything, watched the videos, and ordered the kit along with the t-stat from IDparts. Great service and fast shipping from them. I also bought the tensioner tool they sell, which was very useful. I made a cam sprocket holding tool which worked great, though I may have made it a tad too long. It would have been easier to use if it was a couple inches shorter, but it worked great. For the cam lock pins, I used the set from Freedom Racing. They make them here in the USA and they are a direct copy of the VM factory tools. Service and shipping was excellent. I ordered both the parts kit fro IDparts, and the tools from Freedom Racing and thy both arrived the same day, a couple days after ordering. The lock pins worked great and seem to be a quality product. http://shopfreedomracing.com/Intake-Exhaust-Camshaft-Locking-Pin-Set-VM1052-VM1053-Alt-ST-136.htm?categoryId=-1 I took my time with the job, an managed to not break anything and didn't wind up with any extra parts left over. ![]() I cut the fan shroud while I had it out. There was no way in hell I was going to put it back in without doing something to make future removal easier. So now that I have it running hopefully I can contribute something to the forum. It certainly is a wonderful resource. |
