Post subject:  so my wife says either i have to sell the jeep or my cummins

I recently bought a 2006 jeep liberty with a blown engine to fix for my wife to drive, completely rebuilt the engine with new everything , installed an euro torque converter, new turbo, removed the egr, catalytic converter, performance muffler, changed all the fluids with synthetic oils, and had it tuned. I drove it for 500 miles and changed out the break in oil, she drove it for almost 1000 additional miles and says she doesn't like it its too noisy and she wants to drive the chevy cruze diesel I have been driving (I took it away from her when she got the jeep). so now I either have to drive it and sell my 08 dodge cummins, or sell the jeep so I am probably going to sell the jeep since I use the dodge to tow equipment and the jeep just cant tow that much. so with 124,000 miles on the jeep in great shape is it worth $14,000 with a new engine and mods?

Down to $12,000 or best offer

I have a 1998 Dodge 12 valve Quad cab with NV4500 5 speed with 138k miles. If I had to make a choice between our 2006 Liberty CRD and my Dodge, I would sell the Jeep.

I purchased the 2006 CRD in 5/2014 with 45k miles for my wife. I installed Samco hoses and a Provent 200. I also loaded the GDE full torque ECO tune. My wife didn't like the CRD until I loaded the GDE tune. She didn't like the stock non-linear throttle pedal. The GDE tune corrected this issue and now she likes the CRD. The "noise" isn't a problem for her.

With that said, I think you may have messed-up by removing the catalytic converter and installing a "performance" muffler. I spoke to Keith with GDE about the exhaust. He told me that modifying the exhaust has no benefit with his full torque ECO tune. I can't speak for the Yeti tune, but I don't find the CRD any noisier with the GDE tune. If you still have the stock exhaust, consider re-installing it and asking your wife to driving the CRD again.

I am working toward blending filtered and centrifuged WMO with diesel to save $$. I will probably modify the CRD exhaust at that time. I have been looking at the Walker (part# 18209) replacement muffler for an early 1990 7.3L Ford diesel (non-"PowerStroke"). It is large and probably quiet. I will probably replace the converter with a resonator.

Keep them both, sell the wife.

The converter is a big restriction, but the noise issue just needs a better muffler. I selected a Flowmaster for my CRD, and if I had it to do again I'd probably still do that, but leave the converter alone.

How do you like the Cruze diesel? How's the mileage and performance?

The previous owner drilled holes in the inside of the converter and it started to melt from all the oil in it from a bad turbo. I have a flow master and a resonator on it already, I don't mind the sound.

The cruze is awesome best mpg so far is 54.2 hand calculated, power is good, a lot better with the power box I added to the rail pressure sensor. It is a real nice quiet fun to drive car.

That was my 1st thought, but I would take a Cummins over VM any day.

Not sure how much you spent on the cummins but I feel like you would take a bigger hit on that if you tried to sell it. No one cares about the CRD except for a select few people who know about them so the resale value doesnt seem to be that much better than a gas one.

Well I just changed the exhaust from a flowmaster to a thrush turbo muffler and the sound inside the truck is much better, I also ordered an alternator OAD to fix the belt noise so I'm hoping it will be quiet enough.

Has any one noticed where it cuts off the topic of this thread at the top of every post? Made me laugh when I saw it.

I'm trying really hard not to sell it, I an trying to quiet up the jeep and see if she will be happy with it. But we all know how women are, once they complain about something it will never be right. So if she still don't like it I will try really hard to sell the jeep first

So after replacing the alternator OAD and the muffler the jeep is quiet enough and she is happy so far.
