Just got my 2nd gen fuel filter head and wiring pigtail but I'm not sure how to wire it up. Did a search on here as well as youtube to no avail. Old heater has black and red wires to the plug and new pigtail comes with 4 wires, 2 purple, 2 green. Can anyone give me an idiot's guide to wiring this up? Thanks a lot. |

I have no clue why it comes with 4 wires when you only need 2 but no matter. Steps 1. look at the old plug wires and note, based on size, which goes to what side of the plug 2. based on size, not color, match the new wires (1 purple/1 green) as closely as possible to the old wires. 3. I'm a tad fuzzy here but IIRC slide the new wires into the new head cut wire end first so the plug end of the new wires wind up at the face of the plug as matched in steps 1 and 2. 4. pop the bright blue retaining clip onto the new plug head. 5. best do this with battery disconnected - cut the old wires and attach the new wires per the match in steps 1-3. If soldering do NOT use acid core solder use resin core only; I used marine grade butt connectors with built in heat shrink tubing. Using quality electricians tape, not the cheap parts store stuff but name brand like 3M, or heat shrink tubing "tape" off any bare wire. 6. tape the new bundle if you want and put it back inside the wire loom. 7. plug into new filter head and reconnect battery. |

Thanks papaindigo, as usual lately, you are on the ball! First question, llRC? I'm usually pretty good with acronyms but this one escapes me. Second, the wires on the old plug are very similar in size, say 12 ga. The new wires are very different ga, green are about 12ga, purple are about 16ga. I guess what I'll do is use the two greens as they are similar in size to the old and just match right and left connectors similar to the old... |

IIRC = if I recall correctly I would not use 2 greens. Like I said use one of each color and match as closely as you can. I've done 3 of these that way and they all worked fine including stoutdog's in very cold winter in Flagstaff, AZ |

Got it, just took it apart and old black is a smaller guage, so I'll replace that with purple. Thanks a ton for the wiring info and acronym clarification! |
