got the stat installed today, and while it was all apart, noticed quite a bit of engine oil on the outside of the compressor side of the turbo.. bottom half anyway. At first I thought it may have been the oil return leaking, (it was wet too, but oil does run downhill) then I seen the side of the engine block is pretty wet too, around the cooler. Is this a common problem? I'll have to wash it up pretty good, and see where the new leak is really coming from. |

Oily vapors from the crankcase are piped directly to the compressor inlet - many posted threads on here vis a vis this scenario |

Check the bottom of clean air duct where it connects to turbo. They tend to rot in that area. Is the intake stock? Check for excessive turbo play when cleaning the area. If a bearing is failing, there tends to be more oil pooling. Hopefully nothing major. |

This engine isn't dripping, but it's wet. seep type leak I suspect. Thanks Greendiesel. intake duct seems heavy, probably need to replace soon. It's clean now, and will check in a few miles to see where it may be originating from. |

Even brand new turbos have perceptible radial play, just not much. (I have one I bought from Keith, sitting on my bench.) DOC |

Reason being, no recently pressurized oil thru the bearings - turbo cooled down and sitting overnite will show more shaft play compared to shaft play soon after shutdown |
