Hey all, is it normal to hear the turbo spool up during acceleration? |

Depends on your hearing. I can hear mine whistle when I first crank up but by the time the engine warms up I can no longer hear it. If you hear it all the time I'd check the air filter to turbo hose bottom just in front of the turbo for the classic oil induced split as that can increase turbo noise. In fact I'd check that location at every oil change. |

So the hose is between the air cleaner and turbo intake? |

Yeh that one. The CCV drain hose runs down to a "T" in that hose and drips oil on the bottom of the hose in front of the turbo intake which causes the hose to rot eventually. Mines fine at 50K but stoutdog's was gone at like 30K. Cost ca. $60. To check from the top you have to pull the CAC hose but with some effort it can be checked from the bottom. |

Pulled it but couldn't find any holes |

Keep an eye on it and but better yet, check for play in your turbo. They are very quiet, nothing like the turbo on a Cummins. Mine started getting louder and it was bad. I replaced it and its quiet again. Don't get me wrong, I love the sound of a turbo but only if I've done something to modify it. Good luck. |

K&N wire mesh type air filter allows more compressor whine than paper type Also, badly fitting cover or broken\cracked air box Also pin-hole in compressor-to-CAC hose Also loose compressor scroll on cartridge Also bad cartridge bearings (bad turbo) |

I have always had somewhat noticeable turbo whine under boost (definitely noticeable when cold). I have a new airbox to turbo hose and everything seems fine. Turbo impeller has zero play. Thanks for the list above. I'll check out some of those things as well. Would bad bearings have other symptoms besides the sound? |

It starts with vibration\chatter and reduced rpm and lower BOOST - worst-case is chewed compressor wheel and scroll, chewed turbine wheel (scroll is cast-iron), soon lots of black oil in the compressor and turbine |
