ECU is out on my 2005 CRD. Found one on ebay that is meant for a 2006 CRD, but the part number matches up to mine (P56044562CC). Do y'all think a 2006 ECM would work fine (once flashed) in a 2005?

If the part number is the same it should work...once the ECM is flashed with the VIN, SKIS code, injector values etc.

Get some more opinions though before buying it and blaming me if it does not work!

The junk yard miss labeled the ecm. 56044562CC is a 2005 ECM. You just need to change the VIN to have it working in yours.

Thanks BW and GDE.

GDE, Will the ECU work without changing the VIN and mileage? I'm not trying to to be a criminal, just watching my dollars.

Thanks!

The mileage is irrelevant. The VIN must match your CRD or it will only run for about 3 seconds and then shut off for security reasons. If you mail in the ecm to us for a tune, we can change the VIN to match your vehicle.

You'll need to program-in serial numbers of the glow plugs installed in your vehicle - the four S\N's are printed on the bar-code label pasted onto the timing-case cover

Programming serial #s is for the injectors not the glow plugs, which have no serial #s. The vehicle will, IIRC, run without that programming but it's a bit more efficient with that programming.

Correct on the injectors - just seeing if anyone was paying attention............................

And it is about efficiency - factory flow-matches the injectors and serializes the bodies to ensure exact replacement when\if necessary - ECM can self-adjust within limits but it is best to have matched sets within design spec
