All right gang I need some input.
I purchased (new-2006) one of the last Liberty CRD’s built. It has 190,024 miles on it. Other than routine maintenance, ware out items the only things that have been replace are: the alternator decoupler, timing belt, crank shaft sensor, & the turbo charger (last year). Yes even the original EGR is still on it although it’s turned off. After running around town this morning doing local errands I stop 100 yards away from my home to visit a friend. After less than 5 minutes I started the Jeep and much to my surprise it sound like a brick was being tossed around inside the engine. Yes I did shut it off immediately open the hood and all appeared well. Started it up drove to my house with less than normal power, smoke and loud knocking.
Oil is normal, coolant is normal all looks as it should but it’s not.
Any guesses, I’d love to hear them. Oh, too make this real fun I live on the Big Island of Hawaii. Soo mechanics are in short supply. I do most of my own work, and I don’t know where to start.

Fairly normal behavior that I attribute to air in the fuel system. You can reduce frequency of this problem with either in tank or inline fuel pump (in tank better) and a decent fuel filter head such as a Racor which I use.

Every once in a while, aka yesterday morning, my CRD did same time. I shut it off, cranked engine again and was on my way.
