My first guess would be air in fuel.
It's a common problem.

Kinda need more info about your vehicle.
Mileage?
Maintenance and repair history?
Modifications?

A good place to start is the SirSam's Noob guide .

I re read this a bunch of times when I first bought my CRD . And have gone back to it many times when working on mine

Air it fuel tutorial points:
1. do you have the original OEM fuel filter head or the replacement with the bright blue fuel heater element plug, see Sir Sam's bleeding video for pics. If the former the likely source is a burned fuel heater element. Solution - buy new filter head and wiring pigtail (head comes with new filter and water in fuel sensor installed but you can pull those off for later use and install you current ones if recently installed).
2. if you have the replacement filter head then follow Sir Sam's bleeding instructions modified by placing a short length of vinyl tubing over the bleeder head to route the fuel bleed out to a catch bottle instead of paper towels. If you get air and after bleeding your problem goes away then air was the cause.
3. if air comes back a) carefully check around the filter and filter head with a dry paper towel for leaks if none then b) consider adding an inline or in tank fuel pump (see thread discussions) and/or, I prefer the or, dropping the fuel tank and replacing the 2 quick disconnect fittings on the line to, not from, the fuel filter with quality marine grade diesel rated fuel line and appropriate clamps

The problem is with the fuel filter head.
There are two electrical plugs in it, one of which is a fuel heater.
The heater has a tendency to overheat, melting the socket, and creating a leak.
If you pull those connectors out and find that one is wet with fuel, that's your problem.
There is a updated fuel filter assembly available from mopar.

There is also the possibility of leaks back at the tank where the fuel lines connect.

If you unplug the MAF on the air box it will rule out EGR issues. You will have a CEL, but can get it cleared after running the drive test.

yes there was a measurable amount of air and it fixed the problem, now i should be be making plans out there too replace the filter and housing,...biggest concern now is to replace torque converter investigating if my libby ever had it, I'm nervous about detuning the engine I've seen some things about the euro conversion any suggestions??
