Hi All
This is my first post
I just bought an 06 CRD with 155,000km on it
It has failed an emission test due to codes 1261, 1263, 1265, 1267
The CEL was never on
I ohm'd out the glow plugs and they were bad (averaging 300 ohms)
I installed the new glow plugs but still have the same codes
I had disconnected the battery , hoping to clear the old codes.

will i need to have old codes cleared by a shop?

Also, when i turn the ignition key on but dont start engine, the CEL turns on and then off.
My friend with an 06 CRD has his CEL turn on but not turn off till he starts the engine
Do i have another issue?
Thank you

I have an 05 model and it took a few days of driving it around and the codes cleared themselves,I had the same problem, bad glow plug. I replaced the glow plugs and I was upset that the CEL was still on. I drove it for a few days and the CEL went off. You can also go to your local mechanic and they should be able to clear the code for you.

Well I was going to start my first post but saw this one. Took a number of cranks to get the CRD to fire. Now the CEL is on. Took it to autozone and no codes show. Nothing to clear 88000mi and first issue. Has not reset the CEL yet. How many days til I need to have it checked out. Has Ecotune and exhaust but otherwise stock.Have new battery waiting to put it. Red top was getting long in tooth.

There are codes that can only be read by Chrysler diagnostics, but they will not usually result in an inspection failure. Inova 3030 is cheap and reads the most codes of aftermarket scanners. Many scanners do not read KJ CRD codes.

I can tell you the Autel MaxiSys does a FINE job on the KJ Diesel. I did a FULL scan of all models today on mine. It will even program keys!

For the price they want for the Autel MaxiSys it better do everything.

FYI some codes, don't know which ones, will go away on their own after about 5 drive cycles after the problem is fixed.

What about the Innova 3040 or 3100?
Do they all work the same?

Well, I'm in the industry and trust me the Autel is a great priced scan tool for MORE than GLOBAL OBDII. Compared to a Snap-On or OTC (yuk)..it blows them away for functionality.

When all else fails, I plug in the factory tools (Ford IDS, Chrysler WiTech, GM Tech2/GDS2)

Diagnosing cars with a playtool (Global OBDII scantool) gets people in trouble (parts cannon)

I'm supprised that a pc based program using a mpps cable doesn't exist that would get all codes, etc

I got my dtc's reset and passed my emission test.

Only remaining odd thing is that the CEL wasn't on

Check out: OBDwiz Automotive Diagnostic Software. It does require a OBDLink cable to communicate with the laptop software.
http://www.scantool.net/obdwiz/#overview
OBDLink SX will quickly and accurately diagnose engine problems and access performance parameters for all OBD-II compliant vehicles (except hybrid or electric vehicles). Use the latest version of OBDwiz software on any Windows laptop, netbook, or PC and you have a sophisticated, easy-to-use diagnostic system — for a small fraction of the cost of comparable standalone units! OBDLink SX provides the same core functionality as the original OBDLink in a straightforward, plug-and-play package.

The latest version of the free, feature-packed OBDwiz diagnostic software included with the scan tool allows you to:
Turn off the check engine light, and erase stored diagnostic information.
Read and erase stored, pending, and permanent trouble codes (both generic and manufacturer-specific).
Access freeze frame information.
Display, graph, and log 90+ real-time parameters
Create custom digital dashboards
Measure and display fuel economy
It is touchscreen-friendly, and can even be used as a digital dashboard.
Operating System Windows 2000 SP4, Windows XP SP2, Windows Vista (32-bit and 64-bit), Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit)
Screen Resolution 640x480 or higher
OBD Interface OBDLink, ElmScan 5, or Ready-or-Not

I'm betting this is Global only. Look at AutoEnginuity...it has ENHANCED data

I think your CEL - light is burned out or disconnected.

all of the Glow plug codes set the light- your's didn't come on - something's broken - or intentionally disconnected

should cycle on at the startup light check.

Flash,

My guess is the 3040 will work with the KJ CRD if it is from the same series as 3030.

I have two from the 3100 series. Neither will read engine codes. One will sometimes read ABS codes.

I've got a 3100c and it kind of works. I say kind of because it can take multiple attempts to read codes. It can come back with no codes or comms error when the CEL is lit. It can take multiple attempts to erase and even immediately after erasing and the CEL going out the scanner can still fail to connect to re-read the codes or return the erased code as still active.

The question is not what scanner is compatible with the CRD but rather what scanner is the CRuD compatible with. My feeling is that if the scan tool pokes the ECU in the wrong way if can lock up and become unresponsive. This is happening during the protocol selection.

All the issues we see lie with the crappy implementation Chrysler has inflicted on us.

I just got a new android tablet and OBD bluetooth adaptor and was playing with it this morning using the TorquePro app. Cleared all the DTC codes with it and CEL turned off.
The CEL will come back on next startup.
I have a bad wire/connection in the MAF circuit.
I'm not that worried about it.
I may attempt to fix it someday.

I can tell you the Autel MaxiSys does work well. All modules and even SKIM/Key programming. I just ordered a second key (according to module thee are two keys programmed, but dealership only gave me one). I will go to dealer and get my SKIM PIN, and program the key and let you guys know.

I will install AutoEnginuity in a few weeks and also replay back of its functions.

it thinks my jeep is a gasser
I get no DTC and only see throttle position and rpm
Has anyone had success with this software?

I have and have used AUTOENGINUITY global and Enhanced version on the KJ - no glitches, immediate hookup and display - IIRC, they even have a version for palm-tops and blue-tooth

Any scanner that does function with the KJ will do so only in PARK, vehicle stopped - in DRIVE and rolling, ABS begins passing data back and forth on the busses when receiving wheel speed-sensor input - ABS is not a team player, prolly because it is a safety-critical module - having no 'buss-busy' flag, ABS will butt-in with no regard for buss traffic, blowing off the scanner, then setting any of several ABS failure DTCs, indicator on - other KJ CRD modules are programmed with 'buss-busy' flags, talking in the intervals when ABS is not talking, so there is no contention - they monitor the buss for traffic, waiting till traffic stops to begin talking - thus, they see each other, and AE and other scanners and react accordingly, with no buss contention
