The position switch on the CRD is not immediately below the TC shifter cut-out. It is behind and underneath the floor plan. You can see it and you can pull the electrical connector but I cannot figure out how to get a 1-1/2" socket and/or wrench on it to pull it out. There is not enough room from inside the car and there is no room below the car. I'm wondering if i need to disconnect he drive shaft and lower the tc and tranny a little to get enough clearance to unscrew this? Anyone got any tips on this? I read all the write-ups on the non-CRD removal and they make it sound easy, but I can't figure out how to do it on the CRD. Appreciate any ideas! Gary |

Well - for those who try this is the future - I answered my own question. - disconnect rear drive shaft - slowly lower the cross member until you have just enough clearance to get the 1-1/2" socket (which had a 3/4" drive, which meant I need more clearance for the 3/4" to 1/2" drive adapter) - then was just able to get a 10" ratchet on it from inside the cab and using a pry bar up against the transfer case used the leverage to break it loose. PITA! |

Just had my TC switch out today. Got to it from the inside with channel locks after removing the console . It was not that tight and once it broke loose it spun right out. The reason I pulled the switch: I was exercising the transfer case shifting through all the positions. After doing this I had the Full 4WD light on when in 2WD. I checked the switch with my meter and got different resistance readings at different positions of the switch. It appears the switch is off 2 positions. Full 4WD is on when in 2WD, no light when transfer case in part time 4WD, 4WD Low light on when in transfer case in full time 4WD and 4WD Low stays on when in Neutral and 4WD low. So it seems the switch is responding so is it possible for the cam that contacts the switch to have slipped or just a bad switch? |

What replacement switch did you guys go with? OEM or the part store type? |

Removed the switch again today to see if I could clean it and get back the normal resistance readings. I had 410 ohms with the plunger fully in, 210 ohms at the next position out, then 60 ohms for the remainder of the switch travel. Soaked the switch in rubbing alcohol for about an hour. Depressing the plunger squirted alcohol out the other end around the plug pins. Made no change in the resistance measurements. Found and purchased an OEM switch on Ebay for $35 with the shipping. |
