All right, most of you know what I'm talking about, that dreaded sinking feeling you get in the pit of your stomach when you hear that new 'sound' or notice a new puddle under the jeep or notice some new electrical gremlin...I've had two in the past month that might make your chuckle. 1. About a month ago I once again started parking my jeep in the garage as the temps starting plunging. About the second day I noticed a large puddle under the jeep (which also was about a week after I changed the oil). "Oh crap" I thought to myself as I started to crawl under the car....it's not radiator...too far back...tranny fluid??...doesn't look in the right spot to be oil....finally stuck my finger in the puddle and rubbed my fingers together...it was water that had condensed on a humid day and dripped off the back of the wheel well. WHEW! ![]() 2. Today I get into the jeep and start driving to town, I look up at the center console to check out the outside temperature and it's blank!! WTH!! My mind starts reeling with thoughts of some of the electrical gremlins that I've thought over the last couple of years... ![]() ![]() I'm sure the rest of you have some good stories to share !! |

pretty sure my passenger side tie rod has a hole in it... when I first saw it I immediately thought it was the radiator leaking. |

2 weeks ago my Jeep started to make a noise/ thump at the rear axle on deceleration. Tried to find it the first day and shook passenger side wheel -- all good. Next day noise even worse and not at cruise or accelerating. Drove at up to 70mph on highway listening to noise. In parking lot and looked underneath driveshaft all good. Crawled out and happened to shake drivers side wheel. Lugnuts were loose at that wheel. Tightened and checked all right after. |

And now for something completely different................ While visiting sister\husband, I'm looking out the back windows across the creek and up the rise to the top of the hill. Suddenly I notice something on the ground part way up the hill, slightly moving - grabbing the binocs, I see the white abdomen and tan body of a downed deer - after everyone has look-see, I then notice the deer has moved, and occasionally moves it's white tail - however, the creek was recently flooded, washing away the crossing, so I was the only one wanting to investigate: down and still moving indicated some good likelyhood of edible venison - I noticed some bustards circling and landing, so on with my waders, grab my Taurus Judge .410 and my Moses staff, and entrepidly set forth, down the slippery clay\sand slope, thru the rushing creek, up the far-side way more-clay-than-sand slippery slope up the hill - moving out of the cut-sloped area, I see two bustards flap up and away, and suddenly get the wunnerful aroma of rotting flesh - the thought crosses my mind that I can at least give her mercy with one of the two .45 long Colts in the big Judge on my hip - however, at that instant the deer wags it's tail, so, hoping for the best, I proceed forth, softly, cautiously............. Dunno at which instant it actually occured, but, suddenly to my wondering eyes should appear the white vinyl tail, blown by the breeze, of the vinyl doe decoy placed there several weeks ago by bro-in-law's grandson, which, of course, they had totally forgotten, since heavy rains and swollen creek had prohibited any deer hunting in the interim - two of the hoof-anchors had pulled out of the ground, allowing the decoy to fall over on it's left side, exposing the white abdomen, easily seen in the afternoon sun Meanwhile, back at the ranch, they were all likely watching, guffawing, and yukking it up at my expense, so, remembering Inspector Clouseau's savoir faire so humorously portrayed by Peter Sellers, I righted the doe and meticulously anchored her down for future comedy routines by some other unsuspecting relative over the Holidays, and marched solemnly back to the house as if all was copasetic p.s. That odor of rotting flesh? An excellent f'rinstance demonstrating the power of the human mind - the odor evaporated upon recognition of the prize And my KJ? Alas, still not running - been too busy rescuing downed deer................. |
