One of the solenoid drivers in my TCM has failed!

Local scrap yards and E-Bay have come up with nothing so far, none of the online refurb places do the CRD TCM and a new one from the dealer at $900 programmed is way too expensive.

Anyone got a spare they'd be willing to sell for a reasonable price?

Failing that, from what I've read, I believe that any Chrysler TCM from a 545rfe based vehicle should work provided it predates the CRD. I realise that the selection is quite small because they switched from TCM to PCM architecture not long after introducing the 454rfe

I understand that the shift points are going to be different to the CRD - maybe good, maybe bad? I believe that 03 Ram is the candidate tried by some members here. The 03 Dakota and 01-03 Grand Cherokee also appear to use the 545rfe+TCM combo. Anyone here tried either of these or know of their suitability?

What makes these alternatives interesting is that they can be found pretty cheap, $50-$100 used on ebay or ~$150 refurb. At that price I'd be prepared to give one a try to get back on the road while I bide my time waiting for a suitable CRD donor to become available.

Any comments or other suggestions?

Check around a bit as I see some, don't know if really in stock, for more like $300. PN appears to be 56044737AB or AF.

You might also drop Keith at GDE an email for options. He can program the TCM and may know of other units that he can program to work in the KJ. Also check http://www.uneedapart.com/ and http://car-part.com/

There certainly are wrecked KJ CRDs out there that should have the part.

I'm uncertain on the part number. But I think the ram tcm is 56029053AD. I had mine in for almost 2 years and love it over my f-37 tcm

Edit. There are a few on eBay. $70-150

I'd forgotten the possible RAM TCM option discussed at viewtopic.php?f=5&t=70718&start=40

Thanks papa, knowing where to look is half the battle . I located one locally through car-part.com for $100 Canadian, that's about US$37.65 :ROTFL:

Made the 50km drive to the scrap yard to pick it up at lunchtime. When the guy behind the counter proudly presented me with the ECU my heart sank. Anyway, he assured me that the donor vehicle was still in the yard and sure enough he took me straight to it. It had taken a bit of a beating on the passenger side and the mounting bracket was a bit twisted but the TCM itself is undamaged.

Still interested in trying the alternatives also e.g. the 03 Ram if I can pick one up sub $100.
