I have a completely stock 2005 Liberty CRD that I purchased new which presently has 102K
I do the basic maintenance on the vehicle but the Jeep Dealer has completed all of the warranty issues, flash updates and at 90K T/B, kit EGR and had the intake cleaned but they are very costly.
Recently the Jeep has what feels like a slight engine miss when accelerating slowly and trying to maintain a steady speed such as 20, 30, 40mph etc.
My first thought was to bleed the fuel water separator and found some air in the system.
I also cleaned the map sensor which was not clogged at all since it was cleaned in July.
The engine ran smooth for a little while but then started to miss again so I checked for air in the system again but it was clear.
I also noticed last night that during this engine miss my lights were dimming and also during de-acceleration my blower motor speed slowed considerably, dash lights and driving lights dimmed.
I checked the cables at the battery and they are clean and connections are tight.
I do not have a scanner to check for codes so I have been reading through the forums here trying to find some help.
I thought about purchasing the updated fuel head but before I do that I was hoping that someone offer some assistance or guidance or does anyone know of a trust worthy CRD Technician in the Princeton NJ area?
Thank you for what every guidance that can be offered,
Scott

I would start by getting the battery and charging system tested if you are not able to do it your self. You should be getting 14+ volts with the engine running, and the battery voltage should be higher then 12.4 volts after setting overnight before you turn on the ignition.

And when it is all running good again, get the GDE tune to so you can maximize the life of your engine as well.

Agreed: battery and charging system first
- cold temps quickly reveal need for battery service\replacement
- battery that starts easily in summer slowly grinds in fall\winter and results in dimming and flickering lights

At least part of your problem is your alternator/battery combination has problems which might? at least partially explain your "miss" which could actually be the alternator cycling on/off.

First DIY check. Pop the hood and the silly plastic engine cover; grab a good flashlight; in Park & with brake on crank the engine up and let it idle; exit the vehicle; stand on the side just forward of the left front wheel and shine the flashlight down the slope of the serpentine belt to the serpentine belt idler. Is the idler nearly rock steady or is it doing a rock and roll dance? If the latter then your alternator decoupler pulley is shot. Replace ASAP before it takes out your serp belt/serp belt idler and possible causes engine to jump time. With luck you can source a lifetime warranty alternator with decoupler from line AutoZone.

If that DIY doesn't work go to any decent mechanic shop and have them load test the battery and check the alternator output.

X2 on the GDE tune but if you are running the 1st gen fuel filter head (driver's side electric plug is NOT bright blue) get the 2n gen one, see Sir Sam's NOOB guide bleeding video for PN. It's and easy DIY - undo fuel hose clamps; push not pull the hoses off the hose barbs; unplug the 2 top electrical plugs; undo 2 IIRC bolts holding unit to mounting plate; lift out carefully (there is enough wire) and unplug WIF sensor wire on bottom; if your current fuel filter is new save it for future use/same for old WIF sensor. Install of the new filter unit is the reverse PLUS wire in new fuel heater pigtail - undo battery; cut old wiring; insert new wires thru front of new plug and secure with blue retainer; connect new wires to old ones based on best fit match by size (colors won't match) using solder (not acid core)+heat shrink tubing or marine grade butt connectors with built in heat shrink tubing; plug in; reattach battery.

Check trusted mechanics posts for ones in your area.

I appreciate all of the information offered.
I load tested the battery which turned out fine but the alternator regulator seems to be faulty so I replaced the alternator last night and now I am in the process of installing the up grade fuel water seperator assembly and splicing the pig tail kit
I will post later today as to what the out come is
Thanks again!
Scott

Well it's all back together and took it for a nice test drive she running like a charm !
As papaindigo indicated it was two separate issues both charging and fuel.
Thanks again for all of your helpful advice I really appreciate it!
