Post subject:  Rear brake rotors/discs
Hi happy new year to all. Finally got round to the rear brakes on my KJ. Replaced hand brake shoes, new small parts, new EBC rotors and Mintex brake pads. My problem? The old pads nearly down to the metal so had to push the calliper piston all the way back. I pumped it forward and back several times to make sure its not sticking but just don't seem to be able to push it back into the bore enough to fit over the rotor. Managed to push it enough to fit over the rotor but than it gets stuck and binds on the rotor when you press the pedal.I have ordered 2 service kits for the calliper but any idea whats wrong?

Did you crack the bleeder screw? IIRC the piston cannot be pressed back into the bore unless brake fluid pressure is released by pushing excess out past the bleeder.

It's also possible that the "plastic" pistons have absorbed sufficient brake fluid to cause them to swell and bind in the bore.

Thanks papaindigo, No I didn't crack open the bleed screw relied on it flowing back to the reservoir. Piston slides back no problem until it nearly reaches the end? One side is not so bad as the other. Waiting for the new pistons and seals so will pull them apart and take a closer look inside. :JEEPIN:

Update all ok. The plastic pistons had expanded 48mm one end and 48.45mm on brake pad end enough for them to jam in the bore when there are pushed back. I guess they cured the problem with rust with the plastic ones but created another. :D I think I might do the fronts as well at some point. Cheers for the help guys :JEEPIN:
