Hey everyone, Let me start by thanking you guys for having an superb forum. I bough my CRD a year ago and have a blast with it, I just moved to central Oregon and need a toy to get me around the woods. But back to topic... Recently it developed a load knock. I took it to the mechanic as I am usual very busy and its my only car, I normally don't have much time or necessarily all the tool to medal around when things go wrong. They ran a scan, got a miss fire in #3 but all they could suggest from there was to do a compression test to verify that the valves er good. Performed that and all cylinders were in spec. At this point they suggested I take it to the dealer since they didnt have the "necessary" tools or know how to go any further. So I got it towed home since from what I heard when I talked to the dealer was they know just about nothing as well. Now Im about 3 hours in to digging my way down to the rockers. Front grill and subsequent blockages cleared to get to TB cover, wiring harness up and out of the way, fuel rail out, and #1-3 injectors came out easy now Im stuck at #4. Im soaking it in some PB Blaster but still wont budge. Any suggestions? Thanks, Brumbles88 |

Patience; lots of penetrating lube; etc. See viewtopic.php?f=5&t=78351 Be sure not to mix up #4 injector wiring plug with identical plug for fuel rail sensor in that area. If mixed engine won't start. Careful with the plastic fuel return block, easy to break - if that happens check out viewtopic.php?f=5&t=80939&p=853259#p853259 |

Usually they come out with no tools required. Just gentle wiggle and pull. But I have used a "crow foot pry bar" on a couple to get them to pop out. But be careful!! I heard of someone cracking the manifold by using this method. Make sure there is a good solid spot to apply the leverage. |

Does it have any play whatsoever, or is it completely stuck? My #4 was stuck too (I just removed it on Sunday for the same repair as you) but I was able to break it loose it by putting a wrench on the middle (highlighted below) and gently rotating the whole assembly. At that point I was able to lift it straight out of the motor without much effort. Bear in mind I had filled the entire area with PB Blaster the day before and let it soak for 24 hours. ![]() |

Ok, let me add a few tips here as well. I'd be willing to start a Super-Tech area for CRD's if anyone wanted. There is a MUCH better, easier way to determine cylinder compression. It is with a labscope and high amp current probe. So, using the starter motor, you graph starter motor current from each cylinders BDC -> TDC stroke. There is a relationship of current to compression. You can also use a transducer at the tailpipe, lastly...graphing MAF using AC couple will not only identify compression, but worn rockers. Next, the injectors in our engine are also coded in the ECM with a IQA (Injector Quantity Adjustment) number. You MUST make sure you not only don't get the wiring mixed up..but that the PROPEr injector gets back in the PROPER hole. Also, if you replace the ECM, the IQA numbers must be programmed with an appropriate scan tool. |

Update: Injector #4 is still stuck its spent a good while soaking in PB blaster but it still wont budge everything else is loose on the valve cover so once its out shouldn't be much more work. I am gonna attempt to twist it loose with a crows foot since nothing else has worked. If that is no good ill try to making a special pry bar at work. |

This is the second post I've seen in a year about a stuck #4 injector. The other one resulted in him selling the jeep for cheap. |

I remember that post, the guy made some crazy custom tools and still couldn't take it out, which is very weird... I would get the biggest channel lock pliers and twist that sucker if I would get that desperate, either break the injector either comes loose, lol. |

sold it because he couldn't get an injector out! ![]() ![]() He could have just bought the miller tool, but I can't imagine that little thing being in there so bad that you couldn't twist it with a wrench on the slotted part, after a good soak anyhow. I had one seized in there and it popped right out with a couple minutes of PB blaster and the miller tool. |

We have the Miller 9075A available for rent, if needed. This special tool is used to remove seized fuel injectors. https://shop.sasquatchparts.com/shop/tool-rental/2005-2006-jeep-liberty-28l-crd-injector-remover-tool-rental-miller-vm9075a/ ![]() |

here is the thread you were talking about where the guy tried all kinds of things. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=79538 I have a full set of miller tools and it has the injector remover. I have used it a couple of times when impatient on some but also used it on number 3 where injector tip had impacted valve and buggured it up some. I never used it on number 4 but I think I set it back there just to see if it would work because it is so tall etc. I probably didn't change any of the "feet" etc. but it just looked like a tough fit to me. I might be able to try further to determine this if you eventually need to try the tool it is very heavy duty and would surely work if anything ever would . |

If you have not tried it yet, I have found using an open end wrench which fits the recess for the keeper (15 or 17mm, I forget) to rotate it and a small/tiny block of wood on the cover to act as a fulcrum under the wrench so that you can rotate and apply upwards pressure at the same time worked quite well for me. Be sure the wood (or whatever you use as a fulcrum) is on solid footing, you don't want to crack the intake tubes. Also, often helps to try and move/rotate it while soaking in whatever penetrating oil you are using every so often. Even though it doesn't appear to move the attempted motion seems to help the oil penetrate. |
