I'm in the planning stages for a trip in the next 2-3 weeks, that will take me once again up I-95 to NYC and beyond - This trip I will be going as far as Toronto!

Albany? Maybe you need something?
Buffalo? Shovel out the front of your CRD, and I'm willing to work on it!
Jersey?
Pennsylvania?
DC?
The Carolinas?
Anywhere else in between?

I don't know if there are any CRDs in need of timing belts or more in these places... But if you are reading this and thinking about it, now is a good time to jump!

Your timing belt is now up to TEN AND A HALF YEARS OLD if you have an early-build 2005 model, but none of them (if they are still original) are less than eight and a half years old. This is an eternity in the life of a rubber belt. There is one CRD that I know of that most likely has a failed belt, at only 57,000 miles. Mileage doesn't matter! It is all about the age. If you don't *know* that your CRD has a new belt (and the big yellow sticker is the ONLY proof that I suggest trusting) then you DO NOT HAVE A NEW BELT and should be paying attention and planning for the replacement. Every CRD I have worked on, the yellow sticker is mounted to the radiator cross-member by the airbox. Maybe you bought yours used (most have) and the previous owner says that the belt was replaced? Is there a sticker to prove it? Bright yellow, about 2x3 inches, and says "Gates" on it. Look for the sticker for proof. Always.

The travel costs are minimized for everyone when there is more than one CRD on the itinerary, which means that everyone gets to save more money. Right now, only the North end of the trip is set. This is your chance! Respond in here or send me a PM, and we can work out the details.

I do not need a garage to work in (although it does make things a bit nicer) and I have a diesel-fired blast heater that will make even an outdoor location comfortable for me, you, and your CRD. All the tools are brought with me, and the front of your CRD does NOT have to be taken apart. All I require from you is your CRD, the parts on hand from IDparts, and about 4 hours time for a timing belt, and you will be safe for another 5 years and 100k miles. I've worked on between 36 and 42 different CRDs now, help me get to the big 50, and whoever is number 50 gets a bonus.

Don't risk your engine and rockers by waiting, if you have been thinking about this for a while!

I put my Gates timing belt sticker over the yellow glow plug sticker on the timing belt cover. I put in the updated (awful) glow plugs in my CRD a year and a half ago right after I did my timing belt... around August 2013. AFAIK the sticker is still there, lol.

I put mine on the timing belt cover too after sandblasting it and giving it a couple of coats of POR15. It was pretty badly rusted for some reason.

Geordie, I'd get in on your trip, but I am still overseas. In Bulgaria this week. I'll look you up when I get back.

Geordi, I am interested. i have actually been wondering if you would be around soon.

I live in Central MA, Worcester to be specific, and will be driving the CRD out to Utah in the next few months so this is something I would like to have taken care of soon. I have a garage which is partially heated with my pellet stove so I can keep you warm and out of the elements.

I am interested. I am south of Lancaster, PA about 20 mi N of I95. I have an unheated garage that will keep you out of the elements.
Talk to me about money when you get your trip planned out. My son and I had been planning on doing it but neither of us has done it in the past. Do you do the water pump at the same time?
Thanks

PMs will be coming shortly, if anyone else is thinking about this, now is the time!

I may have another gig in Savannah next weekend (I'm working one this weekend too) but after that, its an open option for the timing. (heh)

Any interest in a New England mini-GTG dinner? I'll make the trip out to Worcester to meet up for dinner if you end up there for mass-hole's CRD.

Hey, that would be great! I'd like to finally meet the guy that has supplied all the parts for these gigs. I just recently discovered that you are also selling the Samcos now and the factory airbox tube, if you added in the elbow kits, I think you would be the one-stop-shop for all the mod parts we need. Nice! :JEEPIN: :5SHOTS:

Too bad you're not coming in Cleveland... I'd be happy to have a talk with the best Crd mechanic...

Well, Cleveland is a possibility for the way back if Detroit happens - Were you looking for some work to be done, or just hang out and try to get me drunk? :ROTFL: :5SHOTS:

Thus far, nobody has actually confirmed with the deposit, so I'm not going anywhere just yet!

If you're going to be in MA I could probably find something you can work on...

When is this trip taking place? May be interested in the timing belt and a couple of other things. And price also. I'm about 40 minutes west of Albany, NY.

I will send you a PM shortly with the info.

As for when the trip is happening - I don't know! Nobody has confirmed with a Paypal deposit, so at the moment, I'm not going anywhere for the group. I was (and am still) going to be bringing supplies to my sister in NYC, but that is happening this week - just a quick up-and-back trip on Wednesday.

Unlike many other businesses, I didn't raise my prices at the start of the year, even though you are getting the assistance of a specialist on these engines. But to help control the costs and keep things reasonable for this major service, I can't plan to visit your CRD without a confirmation deposit - it's how I know you are ready to go! If you are waiting for the parts to arrive, that is OK, but let me know for my planning that you are still interested.

Thanks!

I am east of NYC on Long Island , do not need belt done but could use your expertise getting my crd running again! Quick rundown, I have an 06 limited , wife smoked timing belt = broken rockers etc. changed belt , new rockers .... Started right up but wasn't running very well ( bent valves ??? Found an 05 that rolled over for 400$ and swapped motors( engine ran in the 05) now I can't get this thing to run , hooked snapon scanner up and came up with two and a half pages of codes ????most of them where stored but a few where active . I could really use some help here! Please let me know if you are interested and I will gladly pay for your time , thanks, and btw if this thing runs we are getting REALLY drunk!!!
