Hello again folks.. I am still getting the kinks out of my recent CRD purchase..

Question - I have read that the original 7v ceramic plugs were discontinued or hard to come by at one point.. and CRD owners had to switch to a steel 5v, which required a trip to a jeep dealer to reprogram the engine.

Which plug is best for this 2.8 CRD?? I am not sure which plugs my jeep has, but will find out soon.

Etecno metal glow plugs 7V are readily available from DGP Italy and in the US ($24) from ID parts I think. some complaints they are not hot enough in very cold conditions.

I hear vm diesel specialist sells new ceramics, but I don't know details.

I put the metal 7v in this fall from ID parts. The coldest morning yet this year was -10 in Michigan and I got it started without a block heater. Lots of how tos on how to do this on here, I would suggest you read a few. This job can go south easy. I listened to what everyone said here and it went great though.

After a ridiculous number of emails back and forth (10+) a month ago, The Diesel Specialist finally indicated they do not have them anymore. The communication with them was baffling.

Does anyone have any information on the 12V glow plug system used in the European versions of the 2.8? Do they have the same issues as the 7V and 5V?

Taboo Not for me. I would be only interested in new though. I am against using them too old due to breaking and messing the head/valves/piston/cylinder.
