I just got back from an 800 mile trip from California to Oregon and back. The Jeep did great but along the way I found this:

All my fluid levels are OK. Nothing has dropped. There are no drips under the Jeep. The only wet looking part under the hood appears to be my high pressure steering hose. See this:

This picture was taken under the front of the Jeep on the drivers side. You can see the sway bar mount in the picture.

I have been looking all morning for a replacement hose. It seems that this part is not available in the aftermarket. It can only be purchased from Mopar. Is this true? If it is true, this sucks because the lowest I can find the part for is about $250. Part Number: 52129342AF

Your thoughts and input is appreciated.

Check and see if there is a good hydraulic hose place in your vicinity. They can often make replacement hoses; may need to pull yours off to reuse ends.

Thanks Papa! That sounds like my best bet. $250 is a ridiculous price to pay for a hose.

I just don't get how I can see a lot of fluid splatter yet I don't have any noticeable fluid loss. I am baffled... :dizzy:

What papa said.. I had a high pressure hose made for half that price. Great quality too, from a local hydraulic shop.

Thanks for the reply. I found 3 hydraulic shops near me. I'm going to call them tomorrow and see who is up for the job. I just hope they can fix it the same day I bring the hose in. I do not like down time as this Jeep is a daily driver.

The one hydraulic shop that was willing to work with me said the rebuild price will be about $300. This is to use existing hard lines and replace all 3 sections of rubber. Here is the hose that took about 3 hours to pull today:

Image

I am thinking that I want them to just use the two ends (1 at pump and 1 at rack) and get rid of all the malarkey in the middle. I know I can do without the metal u-turn, but do I need this filter / expansion thing a ma jig??? :

Image

Does anyone know what this is? Is it necessary? Has anyone had a hose rebuilt that eliminated this piece? Thanks

Well, I ordered the part online last night for $260 delivered. This morning I got an email saying my order is cancelled due to national back order. They were kind enough to refer me to a dealer somewhat close to me with the part on the shelf. They said there are only 5 of these hoses in all of the USA.

So, I paid $370 for 1 of 5 of this hose available in the USA. [POUTING FACE][POUTING FACE][POUTING FACE]

Good to stick with the OEM on this part. The junk in the middle is needed for pressure pulsations and noise control. Without it you might experience power streering moan. All that crap is added when the engineers 'tune' the P/S system in development.

Thanks for the reply GDE. That makes me feel a little better about spending almost $400 on a power steering hose.

Hose should be here tomorrow. I am looking forward to putting this incident behind me.

Well, I got the $400 hose last night and wrestled it in. I did not have enough ATF+4 on hand so I had to wait til this morning to finish.

Bleeding the air out was a real pain. I pulled vacuum on reservoir for several minutes. Ran motor for 15 seconds. Reservoir was full of foamy atf. Waited 15 minutes and repeat. Had to do this 4 times to get all the air out.

For anyone else doing this, I ordered part number 68146829AA, not the part number in my original post.
