noticed this winter the front drivers wheel always had a red dust on it.. and finally stuck my hand in there.. which promptly sent a signal to my brain; "Don't do this" !! ... Don't take me long to learn a lesson... So I got two vehicles in the shop awaiting new parts. The jeep and my Ram 3500. New pistons, seals, pins, bushings, and pads for both. This is my first stab at the phenolic pistions! what a joy they were to remove! Seriously, I've been derailed many a time with steel pistons over the years. anyhow, I also am going to try a set of Dorman 'speed bleeders' bleeder screws. Little check ball that allows fluid out, but not air back in during the bleed process. Anybody try these before? |

Dragging front brake on a KJ, not just CRD, is a not uncommon problem usually due to a swollen rubber boot of some sort, see for example viewtopic.php?f=5&t=80595&p=849424&hilit=dragging#p849424 |

And another word of caution, I got several reman calipers from Napa (I have friends that made a habit of my kindness and have me doing car work), and every single caliper I got had the rubber grooved booth cracked inside on the sliding pin. I'd advise to inspect the caliper and de attach it from the mounting bracket prior of installing it. I end up removing them (as I did for Crd) and haven't heard of any issues or complaints. Without me looking into this and removing the broken grooved booth, those brakes would have dragged 100%. I'd also advise to flush the brakes every 50k or couple years to take out any moisture absorbed by the fluid (which can cause some corrosion), every time I do it I can't believe how great my brakes are, lol. This is done very easy without any help, just a bottle with a hose (I think it's a 1/4 sized) going in from the caliper bleeder and about 15-20 pedals per caliper (after replacing the reservoir fluid of course). |
